Quantity Surveyor - Trainee to Intermediate Level

Location: Portsmouth Office)

Salary: Flexible - up to £52,000 package depending on experience

Start Date: Can start before Christmas

About the Company

Our client is a leading main contractor specialising in retail fit-out, with a strong and growing workload across major national frameworks. With an established in-house shopfitting team enabling greater control and stronger margins, they deliver fast-paced, high-quality projects for major retailers across the Midlands and South.

Due to continued growth and an expanding project pipeline, they are looking to appoint a Quantity Surveyor at Trainee, Assistant or Intermediate level.

Upcoming surge in projects from January onwards

95% framework-driven projects, with occasional tender opportunities

Role Overview

The Quantity Surveyor will support the commercial team on retail fit-out projects, typically fast-turnaround schemes with repeat clients. While retail experience is beneficial, it is not essential, the client is open to candidates with experience on projects of similar scale, value, and pace.

Key Responsibilities

    • Manage and support commercial activities across framework projects

Prepare and review valuations, variations, cost reports, and final accounts

Work closely with the in-house shopfitting team to maximise value and margin

Support tender submissions (occasional)

Maintain strong client relationships through regular communication

Assist with budget monitoring, cost forecasting, and commercial planning

Help ensure projects are delivered within budget and contractual obligations

Requirements

    • Experience as a Quantity Surveyor at Trainee, Assistant, or Intermediate level

Retail fit-out experience not mandatory; transferable project experience welcome

Strong organisational skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Good commercial awareness and understanding of construction processes

Confident communicator with stakeholders, suppliers, and internal teams

Desire to progress and develop within a supportive commercial team

Working Arrangements

    • Based primarily from the office

Hybrid working available on occasion

Projects generally located from the Midlands down
