Job Description

Structural Draughtsperson - Steelwork
Southwest England Full-time, Permanent
Competitive Salary + Benefits Ideal Next Step for a Structural Technician

Are you a Structural Technician looking to take the next step in your career?

If you're confident working with structural drawings, steelwork details and CAD/3D modelling, this opportunity offers a clear path into a more advanced draughting and technical role.

Our client, a long-established and highly regarded structural steel fabrication company in the Southwest, is looking for a driven Draughtsperson to join their expanding technical team. You'll have the chance to take on more responsibility, work on a diverse range of steel structures, and progress towards senior draughting or technical leadership roles with full support.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Producing accurate general arrangement drawings and detailed fabrication packages for a variety of steel-framed buildings
  • Creating 3D models using industry-standard software (AutoCAD, Tekla Structures, Advance Steel)
  • Preparing layout drawings, connection details, and workshop-ready information
  • Collaborating closely with engineers, project managers, and fabrication teams to ensure seamless project delivery
  • Ensuring drawings meet relevant standards and client specifications
  • Communicating with architects, clients, and site teams when required
  • Contributing to process improvements and, over time, supporting junior team members as you grow

What We're Looking For

  • Experience as a Structural Technician or Draughtsperson within steelwork, construction, or fabrication
  • Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD platforms such as AutoCAD, Tekla, or Advance Steel
  • Solid understanding of steel structures, fabrication processes, and connection detailing
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering information and specifications
  • Strong attention to detail and practical problem-solving skills
  • A collaborative, proactive approach with good communication abilities
  • Ambition to develop into a senior draughting or technical leadership role

Why This Role Is Ideal for a Structural Technician

  • A natural progression route into a more hands-on draughting and modelling role
  • Exposure to complex and varied structural steel projects
  • Opportunities to lead, mentor, and take on greater technical responsibility as you grow
  • Supportive team environment and ongoing professional development
  • Strong, stable company with an excellent industry reputation
