Job Description

Job Purpose

To carry out the installation, maintenance, inspection, testing, and repair of electrical systems and equipment within a nuclear facility, ensuring all work is completed safely, to a high standard, and in accordance with statutory regulations, site procedures, and nuclear safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Installation & Maintenance:
    Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, control systems, and instrumentation within nuclear-licensed areas.

  • Inspection & Testing:
    Perform inspection, testing, and fault-finding on electrical circuits and equipment in compliance with BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations) and site-specific standards.

  • Compliance & Safety:

    • Adhere strictly to nuclear site safety rules, radiation protection procedures, and permit-to-work systems.

    • Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and maintain full awareness of nuclear safety culture and human performance tools (HPTs).

    • Ensure all work is recorded, verified, and traceable in accordance with site quality assurance (QA) and configuration control requirements.

  • Documentation:
    Complete test certificates, maintenance records, and job documentation accurately and on time.

  • Collaboration:
    Work closely with other trades, engineers, and radiation protection advisors to ensure coordinated and safe delivery of tasks.

  • Continuous Improvement:
    Participate in toolbox talks, safety briefings, and training sessions; contribute to process improvements and lessons learned.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Recognised electrical apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 (Electrical Installation / Maintenance).

  • Current 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).

  • Experience working on industrial or high-security sites (preferably nuclear, power generation, or defence).

  • Proven ability to interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.

Desirable:

  • COMPEX or hazardous area certification.

  • Inspection & Testing qualification (City & Guilds 2391 or equivalent).

  • Experience under Nuclear Safety Case requirements and quality assurance standards (e.g., ONR, ISO 9001).

  • Security clearance (SC or higher).
