Job Description

The role & about the client:
On behalf of our client, ITS Construction Professionals South are recruiting for an experienced Design Manager to join a reputable Civil Engineering contractor. This client is looking for a either a temporary-to-permanent or permanent candidate with experience in overseeing large civil engineering projects.
Design Manager Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the design process from concept through to construction, ensuring timely delivery of coordinated and buildable design solutions.
  • Oversee the integration of design inputs from multiple disciplines and external consultants, ensuring consistency and alignment with project requirements.
  • Ensure all design activities are carried out in accordance with NEC4 contract obligations, including formal submissions, technical queries, and that also where required can identify and provide input into early warnings, compensation events, and change control procedures.
  • Ensure full compliance with CDM 2015 regulations
  • Facilitate design reviews, technical assurance processes, and constructability assessments.
  • Maintain alignment between design outputs and the construction programme, identifying and resolving design-related risks and issues. This will require experience in programme review and assessment.
  • Promote value engineering and innovation to optimise design solutions and enhance project outcomes.
  • Support the preparation of Flood Plans, Emergency Drawdown Procedures, and Reservoir Safety Reports in collaboration with the client and regulatory bodies.
  • Coordinate with the client to facilitate timely involvement of qualified Panel Engineers throughout the design and construction phases.
  • Act as the primary interface between the design team, construction team, client, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate records of design decisions, approvals, and changes in accordance with project governance.
  • Verify that design submissions comply with the Reservoirs Act 1975; liaise with appointed Panel Engineers (Construction Engineer, Supervising Engineer) to ensure statutory oversight and certification of design outputs.
  • Oversee the integration of dam-specific design elements including: Hydraulic and hydrological modelling, Geotechnical and earthworks stability, Spillway and outlet works design. Instrumentation and monitoring systems

The ideal candidate will have/be:

  • Understanding of NEC4 obligations and CDM 2015 regulations.
  • Experience within overseeing large Civil Engineering projects.
  • Good communication skills.
