The Company

We are currently collaborating with an award-winning regional Main Contractor based in Essex. Established over 30 years ago, the company delivers a diverse range of projects across London and the Southeast.

They partner with local authorities, housing associations, and private clients across all sectors under both traditional and design & build arrangements. Their sectors include commercial, education, healthcare, heritage, and residential.

With a turnover exceeding 100 million, the company typically undertakes projects valuing between 1 million and 40 million.

The Role

They are seeking an experienced Estimator to join their Essex office on a hybrid basis (3 days in the office / 2 days from home).

The Estimator will support the work-winning team by preparing accurate cost plans and tenders, working closely with the Estimating Manager, Directors, and wider preconstruction team.

Roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Contribute to tender strategy at pre-tender launch meetings
  • Conduct site visits to fully understand project scope
  • Identify risks/opportunities in design development and agree pricing approach
  • Prepare accurate take-offs from drawings in line with measurement standards
  • Manage supply chain enquiries, assess returns, and adjust for qualifications/exclusions
  • Build net build costs from first principles where quotes are unavailable
  • Prepare preliminaries and design fee budgets with Design/Operations teams
  • Produce accurate net cost estimates and present to the Director
  • Contribute to client meetings and presentations
  • Issue complete and accurate tender handover packs to the delivery team
  • Support tender handover meetings to ensure smooth project mobilisation
  • Maintain strong relationships with supply chain, consultants, and clients
  • Assist with continuous improvement of estimating processes
  • Actively develop personal knowledge and skills relevant to the role
