The Client: A successful and well-established civil engineering and construction contractor delivering a wide variety of schemes across London and the South East. Specialising in highways, infrastructure, and public realm projects, the company has a strong track record of working with both private and public sector clients to deliver works safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. As part of continued growth and ongoing long-term client relationships, they are seeking an experienced Project Manager to join their delivery team. The Role: As Project Manager, you ll take responsibility for planning, delivering, and managing a range of highways and civil engineering schemes across London with project values typically ranging from £2,500 to £1.5m. Based partly from a soon-to-be-established London office in Greenwich, partly on site, and with regular travel to the company s Chelmsford HQ, you ll oversee operations from start to finish. This role offers an immediate start for the right candidate and requires a hands-on manager with a strong background in similar works, ideally gained with a subcontractor or tier 1 contractor. Responsibilities: • Manage resources effectively to ensure projects are completed to programme, budget, and H&S standards. • Deliver against time, cost, and quality targets in line with company processes and procedures. • Liaise closely with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams to ensure compliance with policies, standards, and industry legislation. • Lead and coordinate project teams, subcontractors, and supply chain partners to achieve successful outcomes. • Oversee the creation and maintenance of Construction Phase Plans, RAMS, method statements, and safe systems of work. • Ensure subcontractor teams are fully trained and competent. • Work with commercial teams to monitor and improve the financial performance of projects. • Keep accurate records, including site diaries, resource allocations, and as-built information. • Support the development of construction programmes, phasing plans, and methodology. • Ensure compliance with CDM regulations and conduct regular site safety inspections and audits. Qualifications & Experience: • Civil Engineering / Highways or related qualification NRSWA Supervisor, SSSTS, SMSTS and/or CSCS desirable. • Proven track record in managing highways or civil engineering projects in a subcontractor or tier 1 contractor environment. • Experience working with clients such as local authorities or major contractors (e.g. FM Conway, Ringway, Riney, Marlborough). • Strong leadership and organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities. • Experience in programming works and using relevant software. • Sound understanding of health & safety legislation and compliance. • Flexible to work occasional night shifts when required. Salary & Package: • PAYE salary circa £50,000 per annum or equivalent CIS day rate. • Company vehicle (truck) and fuel card provided for business use. • Company pension and on-site parking. • Full-time, permanent or freelance engagement available.
