Graduate Quantity Surveyor

Graduate Quantity Surveyor Location: Derby Salary: negotiable DOE About the Role We are looking for a Graduate Quantity Surveyor to develop and grow alongside our client's expanding commercial team. The right candidate will have a willingness to learn and will progress to actively managing all aspects of construction projects from start to finish. You will learn to carry out measures for both accounting and targeting purposes, produce monthly accounts, liaise with your clients and site teams and monitor the expenditure and values of your projects as they progress. You will also be involved in the monitoring of site programmes and work closely alongside your Contracts Manager and Site Team to ensure your projects are carried out successfully and to the required standard. The ideal candidate will have strong organisational skills, the ability to work within allocated time scales to meet the requirements of our clients, and the ability to communicate and work well within a team. Key Duties and Responsibilities Reading and the ability to understand structural engineers' and architect's general arrangement drawings, design reports & specifications Engage with the supply chain to ensure compliant and competitive sub-contract quotations/packages for all elements of each project is maintained Have an understanding of the JCT and NEC forms of Sub-Contract Produce detailed variation packages including "Cause and Effect" Produce monthly Valuations/Applications for Payment Produce work-in-progress reports for accurate Profit and Loss forecast Attend meetings with clients both pre and post award Key Skills, Experience & Attributes Industry experience working within an estimator/quantity surveyor role is ideal but not essential Knowledge of Structural Steelwork/ Structural Timber as construction techniques is preferable Good understanding and ability for operating the Microsoft office software (Word/Excel/Outlook in particular) Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise numerous tasks at a time Ability to work within allocated time scales to meet the requirements of our clients Ability to communicate and work within a team to ensure an understanding of all aspects of each project is gathered and maintained Good punctuality, pro-active approach, communication and presentation skills Ambition to progress your career to understand new methods of construction within the supply chain Full UK driving licence Applicants should be enthusiastic, proactive and have a willingness to progress their career and understand new methods of construction within the supply chain.
