This position for a Design Manager joins the building division of a global group. With a heritage dating back over 100 years and a strong and very successful trading history the group now consists of specialist construction, civil engineering and FM divisions.

The building division has a national footprint and operates from key locations throughout England and Wales. They deliver new build, refurbishment and fit-out projects across key sectors including commercial, healthcare, retail, education and mixed use developments. They work across private and public sector and have been successful on a number of Framework agreements where they have built long term strategic partnerships with clients, suppliers and across the supply chain. This has delivered significant financial success, security and a clear, long term line of sight to future growth.

This role leads the design team on a construction development and will provide support to other regional projects as required. You will lead a multi disciplined design team from the front and should have experience working on P21 / P22 framework projects.

Key areas of responsibility

  • Working closely with senior design team members to fulfil tender stage tasks and responsibilities
  • Production and management of design programmes including commercial and contractual elements
  • Production of the project specific design management plan and BIM execution plan
  • Manage submissions of reviewable design data and ensure timely approval
  • Work closely with the design team to agree the sub-contractor procurement strategy
  • Produce the project stage design programme and design deliverables then report on progress
  • Manage design coordination workshops and progress meetings
  • Ensure full compliance for all new design documentation along with affordability and buildability
  • Prepare technical submissions for alternative designs, system, component, product and or material proposals for client approval
  • Monitor the production and quality of all design documentation


Required qualifications and memberships

  • BSc or equivalent in a construction related technical subject such as Civil/Structural Engineering or Architecture.
  • MICE, MCIOB or equivalent
  • CSCS
