Countryside Access Officer

About the role

This is a flexible bank staff, zero hours role. Hours will vary, based on the amount of available work/projects.

The Environment, Transport & Infrastructure (ETI) directorate is responsible for a wide range of services including highways, transport, planning, countryside and waste management. These services are critical for people living, working and travelling through Surrey, delivered by the county council or in partnership.

The Countryside Access Team is within the ETI directorate. The team is responsible for looking after 2,000 miles of public paths. We would like to recruit a Countryside Access Officer to assist with the delivery of walking and cycling improvement projects.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic self-starter with relevant practical experience and a good understanding of a clerk of works role. The successful candidate will be able to draw up specifications and supervise contractors to successfully deliver a range of path improvement projects. They will have good organisational and people skills.

Other Requirements:

• Ability to drive or otherwise visit inaccessible locations, sometimes at short notice, therefore access to a car and a valid driving license will be required.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather and sometimes in difficult terrain.
• Willingness to work in Work style accommodation with open space offices and no fixed desk, etc.
• Ability to work weekends and evenings occasionally.

To be shortlisted to interview for this position your application will clearly evidence:

• A-Level Standard of education or relevant work experience
• Ability to organise work to adapt to priorities and work under pressure
• Detailed and up to date knowledge of rights of way and countryside access legislation
• Experience in practical minor civil engineering works, contractor and project management including costing
• Good IT skills including use of Word, Excel, Lotus Notes, database management systems, GIS, power point and other relevant computer applications
• Experience of working with a wide range of partner bodies including national agencies such as Natural England, district and parish councils, consultants, contractors and voluntary bodies
• Understanding and commitment to the principles and practice of health and safety and equality and diversity.
