Estimator – Harrow – Commercial Projects – Steel Engineering Company

My client is a leading steel engineering company, supporting successful projects across the Southeast of England from its base in Harrow.

They are looking for an individual who prepares cost estimates for architectural and structural steel structures; from Bespoke feature Staircases, to Data Centre’s, to Key Building Refurbishments and Commercial Buildings. The chosen estimator must rely on the use of construction plans and their own experience in the industry to prepare and analyze project budgets and spending

As construction technology grows more complex, we are looking for an estimator with a strong knowledge of building science and construction processes, which are both critical to successful estimate preparation.

The right Candidates should have strong math and analytical skills, as well as an eye for detail. Much of the information used in estimating comes from construction drawings, it is critical that an estimator can read and understand Structural Drawings. To help with cost analysis, it is also helpful to have some experience in the industry; and the right candidate will work with the Contracts Managers to oversee the budgeting and financing on a project.

The right Candidate should have strong communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate effectively with team members

The right Candidate should have a thorough understanding of computers, especially word processing and spreadsheet programs. They should be familiar with and have experience using project management and estimating software like Strumis which we use, or other industry equivalents.

Role / Responsibilities

Production of accurate prime cost for the project, Preparation & co-ordination of the full tender process, Identify areas of risk and opportunity,
Preparation of detailed quotations and presentation documents,
Enhancing and maintaining good business relationship with internal and external parties, Develop knowledge of market place and competitors,
Coordination with the different departments towards reaching daily objectives, Reporting to the MD/Commercial Director
Liaising with staff and clients at all levels,



Skills Required:

Have experience of estimating and general manufacturing processes in
Structural/Architectural steel,
Have a relevant engineering qualification, ability to read technical drawings, Have a good understanding of steelworks and engineering principals,
Strong understanding of Client Specifications and Product Standards for General Structural
& Architectural Steelwork in Structures
Education to degree level or equivalent (or a high level of experience), Being able to construct meaningful and concise proposals,
Strong communication skills, Very precise attention to detail
MS Office skills, competence in the use of word processing and spreadsheets
A level of numeracy commensurate with data analysis, Be able to communicate in a clear and precise manner, Having the drive to succeed at all times,
Can do, pro-active attitude essential
