Mechanical Estimator - Job Specification About the Role Mechanical & Electrical Services is seeking an experienced and motivated Mechanical Estimator to join our estimating team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive mechanical services estimates across a range of sectors including commercial, education, healthcare, industrial, residential, and heritage projects. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is commercially aware, technically competent, and enjoys working as part of a collaborative team to secure high-quality projects. Key Responsibilities Prepare detailed mechanical services estimates from drawings, specifications and tender documentation. Review employer's requirements and identify any risks, exclusions or value engineering opportunities. Produce accurate take-offs for all aspects of mechanical services including: HVAC Domestic water services Above ground public health services Heating systems Renewable technologies where applicable Process systems Specialist InstallationsObtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors. Build comprehensive cost plans using estimating software and Microsoft Excel. Liaise with clients, consultants and supply chain partners during the tender process. Attend tender review meetings and contribute to bid strategy. Assist in preparing tender submissions and supporting documentation. Prepare qualifications, exclusions and assumptions to accompany tenders. Support handover meetings with the delivery team following successful bids. Maintain estimating databases and historical cost information. Keep up to date with current market rates, material costs and industry developments. Candidate Requirements Essential Previous experience as a Mechanical Estimator within an M&E contractor. HNC/HND / Degree or equivalent industry experience Strong knowledge of mechanical building services. Proven experience managing projects and budgets Ability to manage multiple tenders simultaneously. Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and technical documents. Commercially astute with a client friendly approach Excellent numerical and analytical skills. Proficient in using Microsoft Office: Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word High level of self-motivation and organisational ability with drive and enthusiasm. Full UK Driving Licence. Desirable Experience of Design & Build projects. Knowledge of heritage and listed building projects. Experience using estimating software such as Cypher, Trimble Estimation, Ensign, or similar. Background knowledge of electrical systems allowing interface with electrical estimators. Understanding of BIM processes. Training in such subject areas as Client / Customer Service, Asbestos Awareness, First Aid, Equality and Diversity, Health and Safety, Fire Safety, Quality and Plant. DBS and Police Security Clearance. Personal Attributes Self-motivated and proactive. High levels of accuracy and attention to detail. Strong problem-solving skills.
