Junior / Intermediate Mechanical Estimator Building Services South London £45,000 £55,000 + Benefits Commercial Fit-Out £500k £12.5m Tenders Design & Build Career Development A successful Mechanical Building Services contractor is looking to appoint a Junior / Intermediate Mechanical Estimator who has already developed a solid grounding in the role and is now looking for greater tender exposure, experienced support and the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility. The business delivers high-quality mechanical projects across London, with a particularly strong presence within commercial office fit-out and refurbishment. Its wider portfolio includes healthcare, retail, education, high-end residential and specialist environments, delivered through both traditional and Design & Build arrangements. Mechanical opportunities range from approximately £500,000 through to £12.5 million, giving the successful candidate exposure to considerably more substantial and technically varied tenders as their experience develops. This is not a position where you will simply price small packages in isolation. Working closely with an experienced Head of Estimating and established Pre-Construction team, you will develop your technical and commercial capability while gradually taking greater ownership of tenders from initial enquiry through to submission and handover. For somebody with around three years experience who wants to accelerate their development without being pushed into a senior position before they are ready, this offers an excellent next step within a supportive and experienced Building Services environment. The Opportunity Working as part of the Pre-Construction team, you will be involved across the complete tender process and gain increasing responsibility as your confidence and experience develop. Your role will include: Reviewing tender enquiries, drawings, specifications and associated documentation Preparing mechanical estimates, take-offs, pricing schedules and tender submissions Obtaining and evaluating supplier and subcontractor quotations Contributing to commercially competitive Design & Build and traditional tenders Attending site surveys and pre- or post-tender meetings where required Supporting successful tender handover and the continued development of estimating processes You will work closely with estimating, design, commercial and project-delivery colleagues, providing useful exposure to how opportunities develop from tender stage into live projects. About You We are looking for somebody who has already gained meaningful Mechanical Building Services estimating experience and is ready for the next stage of their development. You should have: Around three years relevant estimating experience within a Mechanical, HVAC or M&E Building Services contractor A good practical understanding of HVAC, air conditioning, heating, cooling, plumbing and public health systems Experience reviewing drawings, specifications and tender documentation Confidence obtaining and assessing supplier and subcontractor quotations Strong numerical, analytical and Excel skills with excellent attention to detail The organisation and communication skills required to manage several tenders and deadlines simultaneously Experience within commercial fit-out, refurbishment or Design & Build projects would be particularly useful, although candidates from other relevant Mechanical Building Services environments will also be considered. The position is ideally suited to an estimator who has moved beyond trainee level but still wants access to experienced support, larger tenders and a genuine opportunity to continue developing technically and commercially. Mechanical Estimator Building Services Hampshire £70,000 £80,000 + Bonus & Benefits Fast-Track Commercial Fit-Out Projects to £6m+ Established Pre-Construction Team Career Progression A successful and highly-respected Mechanical Building Services contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join its established Pre-Construction team in Hampshire. The business delivers high-quality mechanical installations across commercial CAT A and CAT B fit-out and refurbishment, together with healthcare, education, leisure and specialist environments. Typical mechanical project values sit around £1 million to £4 million, with larger schemes extending beyond £6 million, providing the successful candidate with a strong mix of technically challenging and commercially significant tenders. This is an opportunity to join a contractor with a genuinely established in-house Pre-Construction capability incorporating estimating, design, CAD and BIM. Rather than operating as an isolated estimator, you will work alongside experienced technical and delivery colleagues while retaining genuine ownership of your tenders from initial enquiry through negotiation and successful handover. The Opportunity As Mechanical Estimator, you will take ownership of mechanical tenders from initial enquiry through to final submission, negotiation and project handover. Your role will include: Reviewing drawings, specifications, tender enquiries and supporting documentation Producing detailed mechanical take-offs and cost estimates Quantifying labour, materials, plant and subcontract requirements Obtaining and assessing supplier and subcontractor quotations Pricing substantial HVAC, heating, cooling, ventilation, pipework, public health and plantroom installations Identifying tender risk, commercial opportunities and value-engineering solutions Supporting negotiations, clarifications and successful handover into the delivery team You will work closely with the wider Estimating, Design, Commercial and Operational teams, giving you visibility across the complete pre-construction process and a clear understanding of how successful tenders move into live delivery. About You We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Estimator with a strong contractor background and the confidence to manage substantial tenders with a high degree of independence. You should have: Proven Mechanical Building Services estimating experience within a Mechanical or M&E contractor Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, heating, cooling, ventilation, pipework and public health systems Experience pricing commercial fit-out, refurbishment or comparable mechanical installation projects The ability to interpret drawings, specifications and tender documentation confidently Strong supplier and subcontractor procurement and negotiation skills Good commercial awareness, including tender risk and value engineering Experience using Ensign estimating software is strongly preferred and would allow the successful candidate to make an immediate impact within the team.
