A Fibre optic engineer is responsible for installing and maintaining the fibre optic cables that support phone and internet communication. We are looking for trainees to expand our team to work with experienced engineers across the UK. Calling Trainees with a preference of a minimum age of 18 due to type of work, travel involved etc. This relates to the new apprenticeship – Training in Optical Fibre, Copper Cabling and Laser Safety 3 year training programme with 1 year on site Trainee programme will involve site based training with experienced fibre optic trainees plus block release training held at training centre to obtain relevant certification Starting rate: £9 -11/hr first year. Incremental increase will apply as each stage of training is completed What Does it Take? You should be: Practical with technical skills Able to read plans and diagrams and measure accurately Good at solving problems and calculating figures Accurate and methodical Fit and agile Able to plan your workload and meet deadlines Responsible about health and safety procedures Able to work at heights and confined spaces Able to work alone and as well as part of a team Full clean drivers licence What are we looking for? We are looking for candidates who are both keen to start a new and exciting career in the telecoms industry. You should have an aptitude for learning new skills, be self-motivated and have a flexible approach to work. This is a team role working alongside experienced engineers therefore good interpersonal skills is essential. There is no requirement of previous technical experience. The ideal candidate will: Be a self-starting individual with strong attention to detail Be thorough, attentive and detail-oriented approach Have the ability to multi-task Have excellent hand to eye co-ordination Hold a current UK driving licence Be willing to travel and work away from home Training Training is mainly on the job working alongside and learning from experienced engineers. You will also attend block training each year to obtain the necessary certification to support your future career as a Fibre Optic Engineer.
