EA Associates
Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor
EA Associates Romford, Essex
EA Associates are working with a specialist construction and fit out contractor who are looking to strengthen their commercial team with the appointment of a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor. Our client operates across the high-end residential and commercial sectors, delivering a varied portfolio of construction, refurbishment and bespoke interior fit out projects. The business is open to considering candidates from a range of construction backgrounds, rather than focusing solely on those with previous fit out experience. Whether your experience has been gained with a main contractor, specialist subcontractor or within the residential or commercial construction sectors, we'd be keen to hear from you. The Opportunity This is an opportunity for a commercially minded Quantity Surveyor to join a specialist contractor working on projects where the quality of the finished product, attention to detail and effective commercial management are equally important. The position offers exposure to a variety of projects across different sectors, rather than being limited to one particular type of construction. Depending on experience, the successful candidate will take responsibility for the commercial delivery of projects, working closely with the management team, clients and subcontractors throughout the construction process. Responsibilities will include: Managing the commercial aspects of projects from initial procurement through to final account. Preparing and managing project budgets, cost reports and forecasts. Procurement, negotiation and management of subcontractor packages. Preparing valuations, applications for payment and managing variations. Monitoring project expenditure and identifying potential commercial risks. Working closely with Contracts Managers and project teams to maintain commercial control. Managing subcontractor accounts and negotiating final settlements. Building and maintaining positive relationships with clients, consultants and supply chain partners. Who Are We Looking For? We are happy to consider candidates at either Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor level, with the position and responsibilities structured around the experience of the individual. We are particularly interested in speaking with candidates who have: Experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within the construction industry. A sound understanding of construction procurement, cost management and contractual processes. The ability to manage commercial responsibilities independently, appropriate to their level. Strong communication and negotiation skills. A practical approach to problem-solving and commercial decision-making. An interest in working across varied construction projects. Previous high-end residential or fit out experience would be beneficial, but is certainly not essential. Candidates from main contracting, residential development, refurbishment, specialist subcontracting and wider commercial construction backgrounds are all encouraged to apply. Above all, our client is looking for someone with a solid commercial foundation, a good attitude and the ability to become a valued member of the team. Why Consider This Opportunity? For a Quantity Surveyor who has spent their career working on larger, more repetitive construction projects, this could offer a welcome change of pace and exposure to a different side of the industry. Equally, for someone already operating in the specialist contracting or fit out sectors, it offers an opportunity to continue developing their career across a varied range of residential and commercial projects. The employer is flexible regarding the level of appointment, making this worth exploring for both established Senior Quantity Surveyors and Quantity Surveyors looking to progress.

CPR
Project Manager, Washwood Heath, High Speed Rail
CPR City, Birmingham
Our client is recruiting an Project Manager to help bring one of the most significant pieces of new railway infrastructure in the UK into readiness for service. Based in Birmingham, the role sits at the heart of the Washwood Heath area, covering the Birmingham spur and the main maintenance depot. The spur is currently at design stage, and the role will grow with the programme as it moves through into construction. This is a real opportunity to develop construction delivery experience on a programme of genuine scale. This is not a cost control role. Your day-to-day purpose is to set priorities, coordinate the right people and make sure the right things happen at the right time. The depot is a critical asset for the railway, and your job is to make sure the work across the Washwood Heath area is integrated, sequenced and moving forward. You will work across the client team, the contractor and the wider supply chain, holding the connections between disciplines together and keeping delivery on track. You will coordinate multidisciplinary teams across the area, managing the interfaces between projects and making sure risks and issues are identified and resolved before they cause programme delay. You will lead the development of procurement and specification documents for the overhead works at Washwood Heath, working with technical, commercial and procurement colleagues to make sure the right work goes to market at the right time. You will manage the project interface with the joint venture responsible for site works and ground remediation, and you will keep the assurance and governance processes moving across the projects you own. Senior Project Engineers and a programme planner will support you directly. The complexity of this role comes from holding together a large and varied stakeholder group, managing concurrent workstreams at different stages of maturity, and thinking strategically while remaining focused on delivery. What you need to bring Your background is in project or programme delivery on major construction or infrastructure schemes, and you will have been close to the work. Experience gained in a consultancy environment on a construction project at design stage is directly relevant. A background as a Civil or Electrical Engineer moving into project management, could both work well here. What matters is that you understand how projects are developed and delivered, how procurement is structured and sequenced, and how to work across disciplines to keep things moving. You will be comfortable working in a matrix environment, coordinating people who do not report directly to you and influencing decisions across a varied stakeholder group. You will understand the project management basics, including how to manage an early warning process, how to read and interpret a programme, and how to identify and escalate risk. A degree in project management, engineering, commercial management or a related field is expected, though equivalent practical experience will be considered. Useful to have Experience on HS2 or a comparable major infrastructure or transport programme. A background that has taken you through more than one stage of a programme lifecycle, from design development through to construction delivery. Familiarity with P6 or comparable planning tools. Experience of working through interface issues between civil works and rail systems on a large programme. The role is based in Birmingham, with work focused on the Washwood Heath depot and the Birmingham spur.
