Technical Manager Location: Office-based, Greater London Area Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am 4:30pm Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience + Paid Overtime About the Role We are looking for an experienced Technical Manager to lead our detailing and design function, overseeing the technical delivery of structural steel and architectural metalwork projects from enquiry through to fabrication and installation. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll be responsible for managing the design and detailing workload, producing and reviewing technical drawings and Tekla models, and ensuring projects are delivered accurately, efficiently and to programme. Working closely with Contracts Managers, Production and senior management, you'll play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered on time while maintaining the highest technical and quality standards. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage the technical detailing and design department. Coordinate and prioritise drawing production in line with project programmes. Produce and review Tekla models , fabrication drawings, GA drawings and BIM models. Interpret architectural, structural and engineering drawings to produce accurate fabrication information. Review technical specifications, surveys and contract information to ensure designs meet client requirements. Work closely with Contracts Managers to resolve technical issues throughout project delivery. Liaise with Production to ensure fabrication drawings are issued in line with manufacturing schedules. Identify design improvements and practical solutions to engineering challenges. Manage drawing revisions, document control and version management. Monitor design progress and resource allocation across multiple live projects. Support, mentor and develop junior detailers and designers. Attend project and management meetings where required. Provide technical support during estimating and pre-construction stages. About You We're looking for someone with strong technical knowledge and leadership experience within the structural steel or architectural metalwork industry. You'll ideally have: 10+ years' experience within steelwork, metalwork or a related construction sector. Strong working knowledge of Tekla Structures. AutoCAD experience (advantageous). A solid understanding of fabrication processes and steel construction. Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent communication and organisational skills. Strong problem-solving ability and exceptional attention to detail. The confidence to work collaboratively with clients, architects, engineers and internal teams.
