Commercial Manager, North Bristol Sewer Relief, Infrastructure Based in Bristol Murphy are recruiting a site based Commercial manager to lead the delivery of the North Bristol Sewer Relief project. Worth £40 million and due to be completed in Autumn 2021. You will have experience delivering a heavy civils project of similar value for a tier 1 contractor. As Commercial manager you will be responsible for the commercial delivery of the overall project. You will manage and develop a team of Quantity Surveyors and manage the client and other internal stakeholders. THE PROJECT Murphy have been awarded the contract by Wessex water to deliver the construction of a 6.5km pipeline to connect the sewer in Lawrence Weston to the Frome Valley relief sewer near Cribbs Causeway. The pipeline will direct waste more efficiently around North Bristol to our water recycling centre in Avonmouth. The project will last approx. 3 years and is worth c.£40 million. The majority of the pipeline will be dug using a tunnel boring machine which negates the use of trenches. The tunnel will go under the M5 and various national rail services and our presence will not be felt by infrastructure above ground. WHY JOIN MURPHY? A Utility contractor are recruiting for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to work on a major utility project based on site in North-West London. The company are a Main Contractor for Power, Water, Gas, Telecoms and Railways and are currently growing their business whilst focusing on major projects. They now require a Senior Quantity Surveyor who can add value to their business and work on a major project to decommission existing cables in a power network. This includes civil works, removal of cables, dismantle & disposal of cable management infrastructure and demolition of cooling stations. The decommissioning scheme runs through densely urban areas of London, predominantly under highways, a canal towpath, few parkland areas and multiple third party land. The contract will run for at least 2 years. The successful candidate will be a Senior Quantity Surveyor with at least 6 years’ experience. You should have a strong main contracting background as well as NEC contract experience (preferably option c). It is essential that your experience is on major Utility or Infrastructure projects on good Commercial Schemes. An internationally recognised Principal M&E Contractor delivers critical infrastructure assets for the private sector; banking and finance and IT & Telecoms clients. With projects spanning the UK, Western Europe, and Scandinavia, we are looking to appoint an experienced Managing QS / Commercial Lead to support all sub-contractor supply chain contracts and cost delivery in conjunction to high value (£250m+) construction projects across a number of regions. Managing a 15+ team, approximately 5 to 7 contracts, cost, and commercial personnel in each of the three respective site locations, the new Commercial Lead must have a high level of experience working on either, Data Centre Assets (not BMS), Critical National Infrastructure projects on behalf of delivery contractors (e.g National Grid CNI Framework), or similar critical M&E systems installation experience e.g Airports, Substation, Rail etc. Experience in support to commissioning personnel would also be desirable but not mandatory. - Managing a Team of Quantity Surveyors - Advising on Contract Strategy where appropriate - Annual and final accounting, estimating and forecasting - Supporting commercial or operational teams with procurement requirements - Ensuring applications for payment are assessed and ensuring that they are made on time and in accordance with the contracts to supply chain - Reviewing any project delays and claims mitigation Originally planned as an May start, the projects are now likely to progress from July at which time there will be the need for x3 MEP Quantity Surveyors and x2 MEP Contracts Managers – all to report to this Commercial Lead; all reporting to Regional (Europe) Commercial Director Knowing the current climate has caused delays for IR35 changes, the individuals taking these positions must be able accept working in a Permanent or PAYE (contract) capacity. Whilst a contract rate may be achieved in the interim (depending on expectations) the client will always be prioritising this as a permanent staff post offering a highly competitive package.
