Job Title: M&E Quantity Surveyor Location: Cambridge, Cambridgeshire Salary: £60,000 - £65,000 Benefits: £5,000 Car allowance, 25 days holiday + Bank Holidays, Company Pension, Healthcare A reputable regional M&E Contractor are looking for a M&E Quantity Surveyor to join their established team in Cambridge. The company provides M&E services to a wide range of clients across a variety of sectors including Commercial, Education, Research & Technology, Healthcare and Leisure. These projects are typically valued between £2m and £6m. The successful Quantity Surveyor candidate will ensure projects are commercially controlled and delivered in line with the client s requirements to the company s high standards. Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you, as Quantity Surveyor, will work within a team responsible for successful project delivery from pre-contract to end of defects period. You, as Quantity Surveyor, will be expected to optimise site activities through cost management, monitoring and control over several multi-disciplined contracts simultaneously, whilst providing commercial support and mentoring to junior staff. As the M&E Quantity Surveyor you will have the following responsibilities: Prepare application and cash flow forecast projections for project durations. Complete commercial overview assessments of sub-contract orders, passing comments to the Commercial Manager. Capture and value all project variations in accordance with the sub-contract terms. Complete the pre-construction buying schedules for team procurement and update monthly. Analyse proposed procurement of project sub-contract packages, ensuring best value. Draft sub-contract and principal plant orders, ensuring they are robust and detail the required scope of works. Review sub-contract applications and issue appropriate payment notices as required under the contract. Prepare and issue commercial monthly project reports. Complete monthly CVR s for all projects. Successful Quantity Surveyor applicants will have the following qualifications and experience: Experience in commercial or pre-construction role. Working knowledge of JCT and NEC suite of contracts. Experience of using procurement systems ideally COINS. Strong numerical and analytical skills with a keen eye for detail. Structured approach with the ability to work under pressure to meet set deadlines. Communicate and influence at all levels. Commercial awareness. Strong IT skills using Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel. Background training in Mechanical, Electrical or Plumbing (desirable). HNC or HND in building services (desirable). As MEP Commercial manager you will be responsible for: • Maximising the MEPH commercial position of the project whilst maintaining positive Client relationships. • Protect contractual position by ensuring all obligations are discharged appropriately. • Ensure governance and procedural requirements are adhered to. • To take active responsibility for commercial procedures in conjunction with the Senior Commercial Manager. • To take a lead role in the valuation process where applicable for MEPH. • Prepare and monitor Bid Package Tender Schedule for MEPH related packages • Advise on product selection, specifications and assist with value engineering exercises • Advise on selection of Sub-Contractors for package works • Attend meetings with the design team and with Sub-Contractors • Assist in managing the change process in conjunction with the extended team • Management of the subcontractor site instruction process with the construction team • Ensure Sub-Contractor certifications and notifications are issued on time • Prepare ‘rolling' final account throughout project and aim to agree at practical completion • Complete the final account administration and manage the retention release close out for subcontractors • Inputting into the internal reporting via CVR, cashflows, project reports, monthly project reviews • Ensure project archiving is completed The Ideal Candidate will have: * Experience as a Senior M&E Surveyor on major projects. * Experience working on both Shell and core and large fit out packages * Experience managing the up front Pre Construction phases from a commercial view. * HNC / HND Qualification in either Engineering or Quantity surveying is preferable * The desire to progress adopt new processes and ways of working and help drive a forward thinking business
