Street Works Operative Location: Various sites Employment Type: Temporary / Ongoing Sector: Highways / Street Works / Civil Engineering Role Overview We are looking for experienced Street Works Operatives to support highways and street works operations. The role involves carrying out planned and reactive works on the public highway, working as part of an operational team to ensure works are completed safely, efficiently and to the required standards. Key Responsibilities Carry out general highways and street works duties. Assist with excavation, backfilling and reinstatement of highways and footways. Undertake tarmac, kerbing, paving and concrete works where required. Support carriageway and footway repairs and maintenance. Assist with drainage, gully and other highway maintenance works. Set up and maintain safe working areas, including signing, lighting and guarding. Operate small plant, tools and equipment safely. Load and unload materials, tools and equipment. Work alongside drivers, supervisors and other highways operatives. Carry out reactive and emergency highway works when required. Ensure sites are left safe, clean and secure following completion of works. Follow all health & safety procedures, risk assessments and method statements. Complete basic site paperwork and report defects or safety concerns to the supervisor. Work professionally when dealing with members of the public and other stakeholders. Essential Requirements Previous experience within highways, Street Works, utilities, groundworks or civil engineering . Valid NRSWA / Street Works Operative qualification . Good understanding of highway and site health & safety. Experience using hand tools and small plant. Physically capable of undertaking manual and outdoor work. Reliable and able to work effectively as part of a team. Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Desirable Full UK driving licence. 3.5T, 7.5T or HGV entitlement. CSCS or equivalent. Experience in carriageway and footway reinstatement. Tarmac/asphalt experience. Kerbing and paving experience. Drainage and gully experience. Abrasive Wheels. Manual Handling. First Aid. EUSR qualifications. Experience working on local authority or major highways maintenance contracts. Working Hours Hours will vary depending on the contract and operational requirements. Candidates may be required to work days, nights, weekends and emergency call-outs , with additional hours available during periods of increased demand and winter operations. Candidate Profile We are looking for dependable, safety-conscious operatives who understand the demands of working within a live highways environment. You should be comfortable working as part of a team, following instructions and completing works to a high standard while maintaining the safety of colleagues and members of the public.
