An experienced Quantity Surveyor / Estimator who can take ownership from the outset would fit well, but they're equally interested in someone earlier in their career who has the right construction background and wants to develop. That could be an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, Junior Quantity Surveyor, Estimator or someone with commercial construction experience who is ready for more responsibility. The company The business has been established since 1983 and operates from its base at Thornton Industrial Estate near Milford Haven. Their work is closely tied to the energy and industrial sectors around Pembrokeshire, with site operations supporting major facilities around the Haven. Alongside their established civil engineering, maintenance and shutdown work, the company has also moved into renewable energy, including large-scale ground-mounted solar projects. That mix is one of the attractions of the position. You won't be boxed into one narrow type of project. The Quantity Surveyor / Estimator will get exposure to both pre-contract and live project commercial work, working alongside the people actually delivering it. What will you be doing? The role sits across estimating and quantity surveying, so you'll be involved from the point an enquiry lands through to the commercial management of the job. You'll review drawings and specifications, prepare estimates and tenders, complete material and labour take-offs and obtain prices from suppliers and subcontractors. Some previous exposure to quantity surveying, estimating or the commercial side of construction is important. Experience within civil engineering, structural repair, refurbishment, specialist construction, petrochemical work or renewables would be useful, but the company is not looking for someone who ticks every possible box. An HNC, HND or degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction or a related subject would also be useful, but again, the level of the appointment is flexible. Managing, mentoring and developing estimators across Glasgow and Edinburgh. Acting as a senior technical point of contact for clients and internal project teams. Supporting bids, proposals and wider business development activity. Working with senior leadership to develop estimating capability and best practice. About you You'll have significant estimating experience gained within major projects, infrastructure or another complex capital-project environment. Relevant sector experience could include rail, nuclear, defence, ports, highways, aviation, water, power, renewables or wider infrastructure. Experience across every sector isn't required; strong estimating expertise and the ability to transfer that knowledge between complex project environments are more important. Ideally, you'll bring: Strong experience leading complex estimates. First-principles and bottom-up estimating capability. Knowledge of indirect costs, cost breakdown structures, risk and contingency. Experience reviewing, challenging and assuring estimates produced by others. Team leadership, management or mentoring experience. Strong client-facing and stakeholder-management skills. Experience working within multidisciplinary project environments. Good commercial and contractual awareness. A degree or equivalent experience within Estimating, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Construction or a related discipline. Chartership, or progress towards professional recognition through RICS, ICE, AACE, ACostE or a similar professional body, would be advantageous. The ability to obtain security clearance where required. Location & hybrid working The role can be based from Glasgow or Edinburgh and operates on a hybrid working model, with an expectation of 3 days per week in the office. Given the leadership and client-facing nature of the position, candidates should ideally live within a realistic commuting distance of Glasgow or Edinburgh and be comfortable maintaining a consistent office presence. Salary & benefits £80,000-£105,000, dependent on experience and level, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
