Full time Construction Estimator

Job Description

About you

If you are an Estimator who wants a role where you can have a bit more influence, rather than simply pricing tenders and sending them off, this could be worth a conversation.

You will be joining a well established construction business with a strong presence across the UK, although this particular office is still relatively new and has plenty of room to grow. The regional office currently turns over around £5m, with the wider business turning over around £65m.

You will ideally have experience within construction estimating and be comfortable working on projects up to around £2m. More importantly, you will want to be involved in the wider process, working closely with the Regional Director and having contact with clients as projects are being developed.

Your experience

You will need a solid background as an Estimator within the construction industry, with experience preparing accurate and competitive tenders.

You will ideally have experience across projects up to around £2m and understand the commercial side of construction, including reviewing drawings and specifications, preparing tender prices and putting together detailed tender submissions.

If you are operating at Senior Estimator level, that is also of interest. The salary can be slightly higher for the right person.

You will also need to be confident dealing with clients and colleagues, as this role gives you the opportunity to get involved before a project is fully defined.

What you will be doing with your experience

You will be working closely with the Regional Director, supporting the growth of the Cardiff office and helping to develop the workload across South Wales and the Bristol area.

A big part of your role will be preparing and managing tender packs, pricing projects and making sure submissions are accurate, competitive and commercially sound.

You will also have the opportunity to attend client meetings and help build the initial brief. That means you are not simply receiving a set of drawings and being asked to put a price together. You will have an input into understanding what the client actually needs and helping shape the project from an earlier stage.

The projects will generally be up to around £2m, giving you a varied workload without being responsible for huge, complex tenders on every job.

For the right Estimator, there is also a genuine opportunity to become an important part of the continued growth of the regional office.

About the business

You will be joining an established construction business with a current turnover of around £65m and operations across a number of locations.

The Cardiff office is one of the newer regional offices and currently turns over around £5m. The main area of work is South Wales and Bristol, giving you the opportunity to build your knowledge and relationships across a defined regional market.

The business can offer a salary of £50,000 to £60,000 plus package for an Estimator, with some flexibility to go higher for a Senior Estimator with the right experience.
