Job Description

Electrical Estimator

Benefits: Company Car or Car Allowance, Private Healthcare, Pension
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Location: Cambridge / Colchester

Please note: This is a confidential agency vacancy. The hiring company and client details will be disclosed to shortlisted candidates.

An established and highly respected building services contractor is looking to strengthen its pre-construction team with the appointment of Electrical Estimators.

There are two opportunities available, making this an excellent opportunity for both an Intermediate Electrical Estimator looking to develop their career and a Senior Electrical Estimator with strong experience who can take ownership of larger and more complex tenders.

The successful candidates will be responsible for the accurate pricing of electrical services throughout the pre-construction and tender process, working closely with the wider estimating, design and project teams.

The Role

The Electrical Estimator will be responsible for reviewing tender documentation, completing electrical take-offs, obtaining supplier and subcontractor quotations and producing accurate, commercially competitive tenders.

The role will also involve developing designs where required, identifying value engineering opportunities and ensuring all tender submissions are fully compliant with the client's requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Fully appraise, interrogate and understand tender information.
  • Review, file and monitor tender documentation to ensure quotations are prepared against the correct information.
  • Complete detailed measurements and electrical services take-offs from drawings and specifications.
  • Obtain a competitive spread of supplier and subcontractor quotations.
  • Follow up supplier and subcontractor enquiries to ensure quotations are received within required timescales.
  • Review and technically evaluate supplier, material and subcontractor quotations.
  • Prepare clear cost comparisons and analysis for senior management.
  • Raise RFIs during the tender period to clarify project requirements and constraints.
  • Develop electrical designs during the tender process where required, or engage with design support to ensure a compliant solution is provided.
  • Provide electrical input into contractor proposals, specifications and tender schedules.
  • Prepare tender information and present schemes and associated costs at adjudication meetings.
  • Prepare value engineering proposals and alternative cost options where required.
  • Attend pre-tender meetings, CPDs and relevant training.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of electrical products, materials, suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Work closely with the project delivery team to ensure a clear and consistent handover following successful tender awards.
Intermediate Electrical Estimator

The Intermediate position would suit an Electrical Estimator with around 2+ years' estimating experience who is looking to continue developing their technical and commercial knowledge within an established M&E environment.

This would be a particularly good opportunity for someone who has gained experience assisting with tenders, take-offs, supplier enquiries and pricing and is now looking to take greater ownership of projects.

Senior Electrical Estimator

The Senior position would suit an experienced Electrical Estimator who is comfortable taking ownership of tenders from initial enquiry through to final submission and adjudication.

The successful candidate will have the technical understanding and commercial awareness to challenge pricing, identify risks and opportunities, develop value engineering options and confidently present tenders to senior management.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous experience within an Electrical Estimator position.
  • Experience within the building services / M&E sector.
  • Strong understanding of electrical services and construction.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
  • Experience carrying out electrical take-offs and preparing tenders.

  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a wider team.
  • Good commercial awareness and a proactive approach to problem solving.

  • A full UK driving licence.

For the Intermediate position, approximately 2+ years' relevant estimating experience would be preferred. Senior candidates with significantly more experience are also encouraged to apply.
