The Opportunity We are currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Contracts Manager to join a well-established and growing M&E building services contractor based in Tyne & Wear.
With over 40 years of experience, the business has built an excellent reputation for delivering high-quality mechanical, electrical and public health building services across a wide range of sectors, including commercial, healthcare, education, industrial and public sector projects.
Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of work, they are looking for an experienced Mechanical Contracts Manager to take responsibility for the successful delivery of mechanical projects from contract award through to completion.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Contracts Manager looking for a long-term position with an established business, where you will have genuine responsibility for project delivery, client relationships, commercial performance and the management of project teams.
The Role
As Mechanical Contracts Manager, you will take overall responsibility for the successful delivery of mechanical projects, ensuring they are completed safely, on programme, within budget and to the required quality standards.
You will work closely with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, Project Managers and site teams to ensure projects are delivered effectively from initial handover through to practical completion.
Key Responsibilities - Manage mechanical contracts from award through to completion and handover.
- Take responsibility for programme, cost, quality and overall project performance.
- Lead and manage Site Managers, Supervisors, engineers and subcontractors.
- Coordinate mechanical installation works across live projects.
- Review drawings, specifications, programmes and contract documentation.
- Monitor project progress and ensure works remain on programme.
- Manage subcontractors and specialist suppliers throughout the project lifecycle.
- Liaise with clients, consultants and main contractors on a regular basis.
- Attend project meetings, progress meetings and design coordination meetings.
- Monitor project costs, variations, valuations and commercial performance.
- Identify and manage project risks and opportunities.
- Work closely with the commercial team to maximise project profitability.
- Ensure all works are delivered in accordance with relevant legislation, specifications and company procedures.
- Ensure health, safety and quality standards are maintained throughout project delivery.
- Support procurement and ensure materials and specialist equipment are available when required.
- Oversee commissioning, testing and project handover.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and project stakeholders.
- Support the continued development and growth of the mechanical division.
Skills & Experience The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Previous experience working as a Mechanical Contracts Manager within an M&E/building services contractor.
- Strong mechanical building services knowledge.
- Experience managing mechanical projects from contract award through to completion.
- Experience working across commercial, healthcare, education, industrial or public sector projects.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, heating, ventilation, pipework, plumbing and associated mechanical services.
- Proven experience managing subcontractors, engineers and site teams.
- Strong understanding of project programmes and commercial performance.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications and contract documentation.
- Strong client-facing and communication skills.
- Commercial awareness with an understanding of budgets, variations, valuations and profitability.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver projects to deadlines.
- Relevant mechanical/building services qualification or equivalent experience.
