The business has a varied portfolio covering FM, Greenspace, Aids & Adaptations, Insurance, Structural Repairs and planned maintenance , with a strong focus on delivering commercially successful, high-quality services. Due to continued activity across its small works and maintenance programmes, the business is looking to appoint an experienced Estimator - Small Works to join its commercial team. The Role As an Estimator - Small Works , you will be responsible for providing the estimating function for bespoke small works associated with the business's core construction and maintenance activities. You will manage incoming tender opportunities, develop competitive and commercially robust estimates, coordinate subcontractor and material packages and lead bids through to submission and adjudication. The role will suit an experienced Estimator or Quantity Surveyor with strong construction knowledge who is comfortable managing a high volume of tenders and working across a variety of small works and maintenance projects. Key Responsibilities Triage incoming tender requests, reviewing scope, programme and information quality Determine pricing requirements and identify appropriate resources Develop competitive bids in collaboration with relevant budget holders Prepare comprehensive bid summaries for adjudication and approval Prepare draft preliminaries assessments for tender submissions Manage the estimating process from initial enquiry through to tender submission Evaluate tenders and prepare prime cost estimates Review project specifications and contractual requirements Identify and assess contractual and commercial risks Liaise with Contracts Managers regarding project requirements and planning Prepare and present final bid submissions Work and negotiate with contractors at bid stage Coordinate subcontractor and material packages to ensure accurate pricing Prepare contract documentation for handover to the Project QS and Contracts Manager Present tender bids to senior management prior to client submission Monitor and report on tender success rates and profitability Manage multiple and high-volume estimates simultaneously Assist with the development of the supply chain Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders Attend meetings on behalf of the Pre-Construction Manager or Contracts Managers when required Identify new initiatives and commercial opportunities to support business growth Ensure commercial, financial and risk management procedures are followed The Ideal Candidate The successful candidate will ideally have: Previous experience in commercial Quantity Surveying and/or Estimating Considerable knowledge of the construction industry A construction, estimating or Quantity Surveying qualification equivalent to NVQ Level 4 Strong understanding of construction contracts, particularly JCT and NEC Experience preparing estimates and tender submissions Strong commercial and financial management skills Experience coordinating subcontractor and supplier pricing Ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines Good computerised systems experience Strong written and verbal communication skills Excellent negotiation and influencing skills Self-motivated, proactive and commercially focused approach Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work to tight deadlines Strong attention to detail Full UK/EU driving licence Ability to travel independently to different venues when required A relevant degree or professional construction qualification, CSCS card and evidence of continuing professional development would be advantageous.
