CAD Planning Designer

Location: Reading

Salary: 35-45,000

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced AutoCAD Planning Designer to join a busy and expanding residential team in Reading. This role would suit someone with a strong background in preparing planning drawings for housing developments who enjoys working on a variety of residential projects from initial concept through to planning submission. The successful candidate will work alongside planning and technical professionals to produce high-quality drawings for new-build housing and apartment schemes, ensuring designs are accurate, compliant and delivered to project deadlines.



The Role:

  • Prepare planning and presentation drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Develop site layouts, masterplans and residential floor plans for housing developments.
  • Produce elevations and planning drawings for both houses and apartment schemes.
  • Revise and update drawings in response to planning, design and client feedback.
  • Ensure all work complies with current Building Regulations and relevant industry standards.
  • Support the wider design team by providing technical drawing expertise throughout the planning process.
  • Maintain accurate drawing records and version control.
  • Work across multiple live projects while managing competing priorities.


About You:

The ideal candidate will have previous experience producing AutoCAD drawings within the UK residential sector and be confident working on planning-stage developments.

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • Strong AutoCAD proficiency.
  • Previous experience working on residential housing developments.
  • Knowledge of site layouts, floor plans and building elevations.
  • An understanding of UK Building Regulations and planning requirements.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a methodical approach to work.
  • The ability to manage workloads effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to work collaboratively across departments.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel.
  • Relevant industry experience is essential; formal qualifications are not a prerequisite.
