To join a leading social housing organisation in the North West. This is an excellent opportunity for an accomplished governance professional from Social housing or another highly regulated environment who has strong corporate governance expertise and experience supporting Boards and senior executives. Reporting in to the Company Secretary, you will play a key role in ensuring robust governance arrangements, regulatory compliance and effective Board and Committee operations. The role also includes responsibility for managing and developing the governance team; the current structure comprises six reports, four of them direct. Key responsibilities Lead the provision of high-quality Board and Committee governance support, including agenda planning, Board papers, accurate minute taking, matters arising and ensuring decisions demonstrate that Board members are fulfilling their statutory duties. Produce high-quality Board reports on governance matters and provide accurate regulatory and compliance information to senior stakeholders. Provide expert advice, guidance and training across the organisation on corporate governance, delegated authorities, Board resolutions and governance frameworks. Manage and continuously improve the organisation's legal, statutory and regulatory compliance framework, ensuring appropriate controls, systems and processes are maintained. Maintain statutory books, registers and governance records in accordance with regulatory requirements. Work closely with Finance, Audit and Board administration colleagues to support the successful sign-off of Group company accounts. Ensure timely and accurate regulatory reporting and maintain high standards of governance compliance. Lead, manage and develop the governance team, creating a high-performing and supportive environment. Deputise for the Company Secretary when required, providing trusted governance advice and maintaining effective governance standards. About you We are looking for an experienced governance professional who can confidently operate with Boards, Committees and senior leadership teams. Ideally, you will bring: Significant corporate governance experience gained within social housing or another highly regulated sector. (or any highly regulated public sector organisation) Chartered Governance Institute qualification or another relevant governance/company secretarial qualification. Strong knowledge of corporate governance, regulatory compliance and statutory requirements. Excellent Board and Committee administration experience, including high-quality minute taking and Board report writing. Previous line management experience. Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the credibility to advise colleagues at all levels. Outstanding attention to detail, organisation and time management. A pragmatic, solutions-focused approach and the ability to work effectively in a complex, regulated organisation. Previous social housing experience would be advantageous rather than essential - we are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate strong corporate governance expertise gained within a complex, highly regulated environment. The position offers Hybrid working in the North West, with an expectation of approximately two days per week on site; current arrangements include Wednesdays and periodic Thursday attendance for Board meetings.
