About the RoleAn opportunity for an experienced Estimator or Senior Estimator to join a growing civil engineering and infrastructure business. The role will support the successful delivery of tender submissions and business development opportunities across a range of infrastructure, utility, highways, and environmental projects.
Working closely with operational, commercial, and pre-construction teams, you will be responsible for producing accurate and competitive estimates, supporting bid strategies, and contributing to the successful acquisition of new projects.
Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare detailed cost estimates from first principles for civil engineering and infrastructure projects.
Review tender documentation, specifications, drawings, and contract requirements.
Undertake quantity take-offs and measurement exercises.
Identify project risks, opportunities, and value engineering solutions.
Prepare and issue enquiries to subcontractors and suppliers.
Analyse subcontractor and supplier quotations to ensure best value and compliance.
Develop pricing strategies in collaboration with commercial and operational teams.
Produce comprehensive and accurate tender submissions.
Ensure bids are submitted in accordance with client instructions and deadlines.
Support bid reviews, presentations, and post-tender negotiations.
Maintain accurate records of estimates, assumptions, and tender documentation.
Work collaboratively with wider pre-construction and delivery teams to secure new business opportunities.
HNC, HND, Degree, or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
Minimum 5 years' estimating experience within civil engineering, infrastructure, utilities, highways, water, wastewater, or related sectors.
Previous site-based civil engineering experience desirable.
Experience preparing estimates from first principles.
Strong understanding of infrastructure construction methodologies and project delivery.
Proficient in industry-standard estimating software.
Strong commercial awareness and financial acumen.
Knowledge of standard methods of measurement and cost planning techniques.
Good understanding of NEC and other commonly used construction contracts.
Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and tender documentation.
Strong analytical and numerical skills.
Experience assessing project risks and opportunities.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.
Strong organisational and time-management skills.
Effective communicator with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
