Clerk of Works - Residential Projects Essex / Norwich Area An established, traditional multidisciplinary are looking to appoint an experienced Clerk of Works to support a portfolio of predominantly residential projects across the Essex and Norwich area. The Role As Clerk of Works, you will act as the client's representative on site, independently monitoring the quality and progress of construction works. Your responsibilities will include: Carrying out regular site inspections across residential developments Monitoring workmanship, materials and construction methods against drawings, specifications and relevant standards Identifying defects, quality issues and areas of non-compliance Producing clear and detailed site inspection reports, including photographic records Monitoring progress against agreed programmes Attending site and project meetings where required Liaising professionally with contractors, consultants, developers and client teams Reviewing remedial works and confirming that identified issues have been satisfactorily resolved Providing practical advice on construction quality and good practice Helping ensure projects are delivered safely to specification and to the expected level of finish The Clerk of Works requirements: We are looking for someone with strong practical knowledge of residential construction and the confidence to challenge poor workmanship when required. Ideally, you will have: Previous experience as a Clerk of Works, Site Manager, Building Inspector, Construction Manager or similar ICWCI - some form of membership required, CIOB is also beneficial Strong knowledge of residential construction, including new-build housing and apartment developments A thorough understanding of construction drawings, specifications and building standards Excellent attention to detail Strong written communication skills and the ability to produce professional inspection reports A pragmatic and collaborative approach when dealing with site teams The ability to manage your own diary and workload across multiple projects A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel throughout Essex and the Norwich area In Return? The Role As Construction Manager, you will take ownership of site-based activities from pre-construction through to project completion. You will coordinate installation teams, subcontractors and clients while ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time and within budget. A key element of this role will be the management and coordination of Temporary Works, ensuring all temporary structures and systems are designed, implemented and managed in accordance with statutory and company requirements. Key Responsibilities Manage multiple installation and construction projects simultaneously. Plan, coordinate and supervise site operations. Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality standards. Liaise with clients, contractors, designers and project stakeholders. Monitor project progress and report against programme, budget and resource plans. Manage subcontractors and site labour. Oversee site logistics and installation sequencing. Conduct site inspections, audits and toolbox talks. Ensure all works are completed to the required quality standards. Coordinate Temporary Works requirements, including permits, inspections and documentation. Work closely with Temporary Works Designers and Temporary Works Coordinators. Ensure compliance with BS 5975 and all relevant industry standards. Identify project risks and implement mitigation measures. Essential Requirements Proven experience as a Construction Manager, Site Manager or Project Manager within construction. Experience managing Temporary Works on live construction projects. Strong understanding of health and safety legislation. Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and project programmes. Excellent communication and leadership skills. Full UK driving licence. Strong commercial awareness and problem-solving ability. Desirable Qualifications Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) qualification. SMSTS. CSCS Manager Card. First Aid at Work.
