We are currently looking for an experienced Revenues Officer to join a busy Council Tax service. The role will focus on processing and maintaining Council Tax accounts, determining liability and ensuring discounts, exemptions and account changes are processed accurately and in line with legislation. The successful candidate will have recent local authority Council Tax experience and be able to manage a high-volume caseload with minimal supervision. The Role Processing changes of occupancy, ownership and Council Tax liability. Creating, amending and closing Council Tax accounts. Assessing discounts, exemptions, disregards and reductions. Investigating and resolving Council Tax account queries and discrepancies. Processing revised bills, notices and statutory correspondence. Undertaking account reviews and recovery-related transactions. Managing written enquiries and complex Council Tax casework. Working to agreed productivity and accuracy targets. Key Requirements Recent experience within a Local Authority Council Tax service. Strong experience processing Council Tax accounts. Good working knowledge of Council Tax legislation. Experience determining liability and assessing discounts and exemptions. Experience using NEC Revenues (Northgate) or a similar revenues system. Experience managing a high-volume caseload. Knowledge of Council Tax recovery procedures would be advantageous. Available to start at short notice. Income & Recovery Officer Wolverhampton Fully Remote Rate: £18.51 per hour IR35 Status: Inside IR35 Initial Contract Length: 3 Months Extension Potential: Likely Start Date: ASAP Working Hours: Full Time (Up to 37 hours per week) Role Summary This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual with experience in revenues, debt recovery or customer-focused financial services to support the collection and recovery of Council Tax, Business Rates, Housing Benefit Overpayments and other debts. Working within the Revenues team, you will provide high-quality customer service while ensuring recovery processes are carried out accurately, efficiently and in line with current legislation and Council policies. What You'll Do as an Income & Recovery Officer Manage the collection and recovery of Council Tax, Business Rates, Housing Benefit Overpayments and other debts owed to the Council. Provide advice and guidance to customers on liability, discounts, exemptions, payment options and debt recovery processes. Negotiate affordable repayment arrangements, taking into account customers' financial circumstances and vulnerabilities. Monitor repayment agreements, pursue outstanding debts and take appropriate recovery action in line with legislation and Council policy. Maintain accurate records, process correspondence and liaise with internal departments, enforcement agents and external organisations to support effective debt recovery. What You'll Need as an Income & Recovery Officer Previous experience within Council Tax, Business Rates, debt recovery, revenues or a similar income recovery environment. Excellent customer service skills with experience handling enquiries by telephone, email and face-to-face. Knowledge of Council Tax and Business Rates legislation and debt recovery processes. Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage a busy workload and meet performance targets. Good IT skills with experience using Microsoft Office and case management or revenues systems.
