2, Foreman / Excavator Driver Halstead, Essex Section 278 Highway Works Temp - perm Start: 27th July 2026 The Project We are recruiting on behalf of a highways contractor for the Bournebridge Hill, Halstead Section 278 Highway Works scheme in Essex. Two competent gangs are required to deliver a high-quality highways scheme through to December 2026. Working Hours Monday to Friday 07 30 Occasional Saturday working 07 00 (full day pay) The Role You will lead a three-man gang on a live highways scheme, operating an excavator up to 8 tonnes whilst managing the day-to-day activities of your team on site. A full-time supervisor is in place to handle paperwork, you just need to build the job. Scope of works includes: Excavation using up to an 8-tonne excavator and breaker Carriageway construction including formation dig and Type 1 installation Road base installation (remaining asphalt by others) Installing kerbs, edgings and tactile paving Drainage installation including ditches and new surface water drainage runs Requirements Proven foreman experience on highways or civils schemes NPORS or CPCS excavator ticket (essential) CSCS card NRSWA Streetworks Operative ticket (at least one gang member per gang must hold this) Full 6-point PPE Available to start 27th July 2026 and commit to the full duration

Elvet Recruitment are recruiting for an experienced General Foreman on behalf of a thriving civil engineering main contractor to work on projects across Central Yorkshire with an initial 18 month site in Barnsley This large main contractor have been established over 50 years and have developed a strong name in Yorkshire having undergone significant regional growth in recent years. They now need a General Foreman to join their team to help run sites at all stages. The General Foreman will be responsible for managing daily site works alongside a Site Agent and Site Engineer. Projects: highways, s278 works, deep drainage, public realm / streetworks, flood defence, bridges / structures etc. General Civil Engineering works. Projects 5m- 15m. All work is regional and most of the work is around the A1/M1 and M62 corridors in Yorkshire. They aim to keep staff within 1 hour of home where possible. Duties/Responsibilities as General Foreman: Assisting Managers (Project & Site) in daily duties Site setup involvement Daily briefings with staff on site HSE toolbox talks H&S audits and regular H&S briefs on site Directing multiple gangs in daily delivery of work Managing sub-contractors Briefing and adjusting RAMS for site Ordering materials Involvement with progress reports & meetings Plant checks & permits Amending and briefings RAMS Experience required: Must have experience as General Foreman or Site Manager on varied civil engineering / infrastructure projects with values of 1m+ Must have experience delivering: full road construction, s278 works, deep drainage, structures etc. as General Foreman. Must hold: CSCS, SMSTS or SSSTS and full UK driving license. Our client, a well-established civil engineering and utility contractor, is looking to recruit an experienced Senior Groundworker / Water Mains Layer to support the delivery of water infrastructure projects across major utility frameworks. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who has a strong background in water mains installation, can lead a gang on site, and is comfortable working alongside operatives to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
