We are seeking a Design Manager to work on a Major Industrial Project. You will be managing the design development from concept through construction, ensuring buildability, cost efficiency, compliance, and integration with site operations. Responsibilities Lead the in-house design of: Piling systems (e.g., CFA, driven, rotary bored piles) Ground-bearing and suspended concrete slabs Associated substructures (pile caps, ground beams, rafts) Manage design programs to align with construction sequencing Ensure all designs comply with relevant standards (e.g. Eurocodes, British Standards) Co-ordinate between construction teams, temporary works & geo-technical Ensure design solutions are practical, buildable, and aligned with methodology. Review and improve when you can. Is there a value engineering option ? Resolve technical queries (RFIs) during construction. Support in procurement & commercial inputs if called upon working in the SLT. Software Structural design software (e.g., Tekla Structural Designer, Robot, STAAD) AutoCAD / Revit (for coordination) Excel for design/calculations Reporting Line Head of Design & Project Director Interfaces with: Project Managers, Site Managers, Commercial Team, External Consultants Requirements Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering Chartered or working toward chartership (e.g., ICE or IStructE). Technical Manager Location: Office-based, Greater London Area Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am 4:30pm Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience + Paid Overtime About the Role We are looking for an experienced Technical Manager to lead our detailing and design function, overseeing the technical delivery of structural steel and architectural metalwork projects from enquiry through to fabrication and installation. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll be responsible for managing the design and detailing workload, producing and reviewing technical drawings and Tekla models, and ensuring projects are delivered accurately, efficiently and to programme. Working closely with Contracts Managers, Production and senior management, you'll play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered on time while maintaining the highest technical and quality standards. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage the technical detailing and design department. Coordinate and prioritise drawing production in line with project programmes. Produce and review Tekla models , fabrication drawings, GA drawings and BIM models. Interpret architectural, structural and engineering drawings to produce accurate fabrication information. Review technical specifications, surveys and contract information to ensure designs meet client requirements. Work closely with Contracts Managers to resolve technical issues throughout project delivery. Liaise with Production to ensure fabrication drawings are issued in line with manufacturing schedules. Identify design improvements and practical solutions to engineering challenges. Manage drawing revisions, document control and version management. Monitor design progress and resource allocation across multiple live projects. Support, mentor and develop junior detailers and designers. Attend project and management meetings where required. Provide technical support during estimating and pre-construction stages. About You We're looking for someone with strong technical knowledge and leadership experience within the structural steel or architectural metalwork industry. You'll ideally have: 10+ years' experience within steelwork, metalwork or a related construction sector. Strong working knowledge of Tekla Structures. AutoCAD experience (advantageous). A solid understanding of fabrication processes and steel construction. Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent communication and organisational skills. Strong problem-solving ability and exceptional attention to detail. The confidence to work collaboratively with clients, architects, engineers and internal teams. Package Manager Structural Steel Major Arena Project £300M+ Development Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Package Manager to oversee the procurement, design development, fabrication, and installation of the structural steel and heavy facade packages for a landmark £300M+ arena and entertainment development. This role requires a technical expert capable of managing high-tonnage steel structures, long-span trusses, and complex geometries typical of modern large-scale public venues. Key Responsibilities: End-to-End Delivery : Lead the steelwork package from pre-construction, technical design, and detailing through to site erection and handover. Commercial Management : Oversee package budgets, variations, valuations, and cost control in collaboration with the commercial team. Design Coordination : Manage the interface between structural engineers, connection designers, and architectural facade teams to resolve technical clashes. Supply Chain Oversight : Audit and manage specialized steel fabricators, ensuring quality control, welding inspections, and adherence to execution class standards (BS EN 1090 / EXC3/EXC4). Program & Logistics : Develop detailed erection sequences, craneage strategies, and logistics plans for heavy lifting operations in a tight footprint. Safety Leadership : Enforce rigorous health and safety standards, particularly concerning temporary works, working at height, and heavy tandem lifts. Experience and Qualifications Required: Project History : Proven track record of successfully delivering major steel packages (£15M+ value) on large-scale infrastructure, stadiums, or arenas. Software Proficiency : Familiarity with Tekla Structures, Navisworks, and BIM environments for coordination and clash detection. Qualifications : Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent industry experience. Certifications : Valid CSCS Black Card, SMSTS, and Appointed Person (Lifting Operations) qualification is highly desirable.
