Job Title: Estimator - Civil Engineering (Infrastructure & Earthworks)

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Estimator with strong first principles estimating experience to join our civil engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for infrastructure and earthwork projects.
This role requires a strong understanding of construction methodologies, productivity rates, plant utilisation, labour costs, and material pricing to build estimates from first principles.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for civil engineering infrastructure and earthworks projects.
- Develop first principles estimates including labour, plant, materials, and productivity analysis.
- Analyse drawings, specifications, and tender documents to determine project scope and cost drivers.
- Prepare bills of quantities and pricing schedules.
- Obtain and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations.
- Conduct risk analysis and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams during tender preparation.
- Support value engineering and alternative construction methodology proposals.
Requirements
- Proven experience as an Estimator in civil engineering, particularly infrastructure and earthworks projects.
- Strong experience with first principles estimating.
- Good understanding of construction methods, plant productivity, and groundworks.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and tender documentation.
- Strong analytical and commercial awareness.
- Proficiency with estimating software and Excel.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Experience in large-scale infrastructure, highways, utilities, or bulk earthworks projects.
