Design Manager Infrastructure Projects
Location: Hertfordshire

Duration: 12 months
Start: ASAP
We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to support the delivery of major civil engineering and MEICA infrastructure projects.
This contract sits at the critical interface between pre-construction, design, procurement and project delivery. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring projects are fully developed from a design, procurement and delivery perspective before construction begins on site. The focus of the role is to ensure that target costs, risk registers and delivery plans are robust during the early phases of a project, while also ensuring design development supports programme certainty and commercial performance.
Working closely with pre-construction teams, designers, planners, procurement specialists and operational delivery teams, you will coordinate Civil and MEICA design development across complex infrastructure schemes. You will also manage the transition from pre-contract activities into delivery, ensuring a seamless handover and a fully developed project execution strategy.
During the detailed design and procurement phase, you will oversee the production and quality of engineering deliverables, ensuring they align with programme requirements and client expectations. This includes coordinating design deliverables, managing change control processes, supporting procurement strategies and ensuring subcontract enquiry packages are well developed and issued in sufficient time to maximise supply chain engagement.
The role also requires close collaboration with commissioning teams, environmental and safety specialists, and operational delivery teams to ensure buildability, temporary works and delivery planning considerations are fully embedded in the design process.
Candidates should have a strong construction or engineering background with experience working on major infrastructure projects. A solid understanding of both Civil and MEICA coordination is important, alongside good commercial awareness and the ability to manage supply chain engagement throughout the design and procurement lifecycle.
An HND, HNC or degree in a relevant engineering discipline is required, and experience within water or wastewater infrastructure would be beneficial, although candidates from related infrastructure sectors will also be considered.
