Job Title: Gateman / Civil Operative (NSI 6 & 8)
Location: National Grid Substation, Melksham, Wiltshire
Sector: Energy / Power Infrastructure
Job Type: Temporary Contract
Rate: 25 per hour
Start Date: 18 March 2026
End Date: 25 September 2026
Hours: 07:30 - 17:30 (Approx. 45 hours per week)
IR35 Status: Inside IR35 (PAYE or Umbrella only)

The Role:
We are currently recruiting a Gateman / Civil Operative to support works on a major power infrastructure project at a National Grid Melksham Substation.

Working as part of the site team, you will be responsible for site access control, traffic management, and supporting civil operations, ensuring safe entry and exit of personnel, plant and deliveries while maintaining strict compliance with site safety procedures.

This role is working on a live substation project supporting works delivered for National Grid.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage site access and gate control for personnel, deliveries and plant.
  • Carry out banksman duties for vehicle movements on site.
  • Support the site team with general civil operative tasks when required.
  • Ensure all personnel entering site have correct PPE and site authorisations.
  • Maintain safe traffic flow and access arrangements.
  • Follow all site health, safety and environmental procedures.
  • Work closely with the site supervisor and project team to maintain safe operations.

Essential Requirements:

  • National Grid CP NSI 6 & 8 - Full Authorisation
  • Banksman / Traffic Marshal certification
  • Manual Handling certification
  • Experience working on National Grid or live substation environments
  • Full PPE required before attending site
  • Please note: Candidates must hold the required National Grid authorisations to be considered.

Project Details:
