Our Client is one of the fastest growing and leading MEP Consulting Engineers in Leeds.

Further contract wins and exciting expansion plans have created a number of new positions over the last 12-18 months, in both Leeds and their North West office, with further opportunity to join the business now also available. The building services design team has a fantastic mix of work from complex detailed design schemes through to energy advice, utility and infrastructure design, surveys and feasibility studies.

The Leeds team is seeking a motivated and technically capable Electrical Design Engineer to join in the coming months. The position is equally open to a strong Intermediate or Senior level Engineer, where the successful applicant can look forward to contributing to the design and delivery of electrical building services across a range of sectors including commercial, residential, education, and industrial developments. Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary design teams to develop practical, compliant, and innovative electrical solutions from concept through to project completion, you will take a leading role in ensuring deadlines are kept to.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Technical Delivery

  • Produce electrical design solutions including power distribution, lighting, emergency lighting, fire alarm, data/communications, and security systems.
  • Prepare calculations, specifications, reports, and technical drawings.
  • Develop electrical layouts and schematics using industry-standard design software.
  • Undertake load calculations, cable sizing, protection coordination, and lighting design.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant UK regulations, Building Standards, and CIBSE guidance.

Project Delivery

  • Support the delivery of projects from concept design through to construction and commissioning.
  • Coordinate electrical designs with other disciplines.
  • Attend project meetings, design reviews, and client discussions where required.
  • Assist with site inspections, commissioning reviews, and technical queries during construction.

Documentation & Standards

  • Prepare technical reports, design notes, and specifications.
  • Review drawings and documentation to ensure compliance with company standards.
  • Assist in producing tender packages and reviewing contractor submissions.

Required Skills & Experience

Essential

  • UK based experience in electrical building services within a design environment.
  • Experience designing LV electrical systems within buildings.
  • Familiarity with relevant UK standards including BS 7671 and CIBSE guidelines.
  • Experience using design software such as AutoCAD and Revit (desirable) and Electrical calculation software (e.g., Amtech, Dialux, Relux or similar)
  • Strong technical problem-solving ability.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable

  • Experience working on commercial, residential, healthcare, or education projects.
  • Progress towards Chartered Engineer status with Institution of Engineering and Technology or Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers.
  • Knowledge of sustainable building design and energy efficiency principles.

Qualifications

  • Degree or HND in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or related discipline.
