Contract Construction

Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Planning Engineer to join a tier 1 contractor on a large-scale, double-circuit overhead line project, including substantial underground cabling, in the Scottish Highlands. The scheme traverses challenging terrain and requires meticulous planning to ensure successful project delivery.

This is an office/site based role in Fort Augustus, with an onsite requirement of 3 days per week. Strong civil engineering experience and overhead line (OHL) knowledge are essential, along with a proven ability to liaise effectively with construction teams and project directors.

Please note, this position is not remote. Candidates must be based locally or willing to work away from home for the duration of the project.

Key Duties

  • Develop, manage and maintain the integrated project programme using Primavera P6
  • Support the planning and sequencing of survey works and subsequent construction phases
  • Build and manage detailed programmes covering civil foundations, piling, steel erection, and wiring activities
  • Work closely with the delivery team to develop logic, phasing, and construction methodology within the programme
  • Identify critical path activities and advise on mitigation strategies
  • Experience planning large valued projects on behalf of a contractor (purely project controls or client-side experience will not be right).
  • Produce regular progress updates and programme reports for internal and client stakeholders
  • Assess programme impacts of change, risk, and emerging issues
  • Support the commercial team with programme-related information for reporting and claims
  • Ensure alignment between subcontractor programmes and the overall master schedule
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor and rally junior planners

Experience

  • Strong civil engineering background, particularly in foundations, piling, standard foundations, and earthworks

  • Experience on overhead line (OHL) projects

  • Demonstrable experience developing and managing complex construction programmes

  • Strong working knowledge of Primavera P6 (essential)

  • Ability to work collaboratively with site and delivery teams in a fast-paced infrastructure environment

Please note that this is a temporary role operating inside IR35, with payment made via an Umbrella PAYE arrangement.
