Overview

A well-established construction business delivering residential-led enabling and civil engineering packages is seeking a Technical Manager to provide senior technical leadership and environmental oversight across projects in the southern half of the UK. Works typically include bulk earthworks, remediation, demolition, and asbestos-related activities.

This is a regional role supporting operational teams across multiple live sites, ensuring environmental compliance, robust controls, and consistent reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide senior technical leadership and assurance for environmental and sustainability compliance across enabling and civils projects.
  • Oversee compliance with planning conditions, environmental permits, consents, and regulatory requirements, intervening where elevated risk or non-compliance is identified.
  • Set, review, and approve environmental management strategies, monitoring regimes, and site-based control measures aligned to company standards and regulatory expectations.
  • Lead the preparation and review of environmental reports, monitoring outputs, and performance summaries, including periodic reporting where required.
  • Embed environmental best practice into construction methodologies, including temporary works, materials management, waste control, and remediation activities.
  • Act as the senior technical point of contact for regulators, clients, consultants, and stakeholders, leading engagement on complex or high-risk matters.
  • Provide technical input into method statements, risk assessments, and sequencing to identify and mitigate environmental risks early.
  • Support continuous improvement of environmental systems, procedures, and training aligned with ISO 14001 and wider business objectives.
  • Mentor and support site/project teams, promoting a culture of compliant delivery and continual improvement.
  • Contribute to tender reviews, pre-construction planning, and project start-up by identifying constraints, opportunities, and risk-reduction measures.

Candidate Profile

  • Strong technical background within enabling works / civils (ideally residential-led or major projects).
  • Proven experience managing environmental compliance across complex construction activities (earthworks, remediation, demolition).
  • Confident advising delivery teams and engaging with regulators and external stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of planning conditions, permits/consents, and site-based environmental controls.
  • Familiarity with environmental management systems aligned to ISO 14001.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the region.

Package

  • £70,000 to £75,000 base salary plus package.
  • Regional senior role with autonomy and influence across multiple projects.
