Senior Quantity Surveyor

Prudhoe, Northumberland £65,000 + Company Car

A well-established regional construction and contracting business, Thompsons of Prudhoe, is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to take ownership of commercial management across contract works and projects.

This is a key commercial leadership role supporting the finance, operations and senior management teams.

The Role

You will be responsible for managing the full commercial lifecycle of contracts, ensuring strong financial control, risk management and accurate reporting across live projects.

Working closely with senior leadership, site teams and clients, you will play a critical role in maintaining profitability and commercial governance across the business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage contract claims, valuations, applications and invoice submissions

  • Review and manage contract terms to minimise commercial risk

  • Maintain and operate costing and financial management systems

  • Produce monthly WIP, cashflow and debtor reports for senior management

  • Assess and authorise subcontractor valuations and payments

  • Manage CIS compliance and HMRC reporting requirements

  • Maintain accurate subcontractor payment records

  • Provide commercial reporting and valuation insights to the Board and Finance teams

  • Support and mentor an Assistant Quantity Surveyor

  • Attend site meetings and provide commercial advice on project performance

  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers and stakeholders

About You

We are seeking an experienced commercial professional with strong construction sector knowledge and excellent financial awareness.

Essential
  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior QS within construction or contracting environments

  • Strong understanding of commercial contracts and financial reporting

  • Experience managing valuations, WIP and cost control reporting

  • Knowledge of CIS compliance and financial systems

  • Confident communicator able to engage stakeholders at all levels

  • Strong organisational and multitasking ability

Desirable
  • Experience with construction contract frameworks (e.g. JCT or NEC)

  • Experience managing or mentoring junior commercial staff

  • Advanced financial or commercial reporting capability
