Company & Project: An established, privately owned and profitable main contractor operating in the Mixed-use, Leisure, MOJ and Education sectors is currently expanding its estimating team. The successful business is currently looking for a talented Assistant Estimator to join its pre-contract team in Hertfordshire. Our client has secured a number of key projects in 2026. They are now looking to add a new Assistant Estimator to their team to focus on their busy tender pipeline. The business has a long-standing pre-contract team with an experienced Team Leader who would be an excellent mentor for the successful individual. This opportunity would suit an estimator with 1-2 years of experience working for either a main contractor or a subcontractor, looking to expand their experience and develop their career further. Duties & Responsibilities: The successful candidate will take responsibility for assisting with managing the cost plans and pricing of tenders under JCT D&B forms of contract. You will assist with producing BoQs, take-offs, full cost plans, and target cost reporting, with occasional pre-construction surveying duties including deeds of appointment and procurement. Desirable Experience: 2 years+ of experience with a main contractor or subcontractor as a trainee or assistant estimator, pre-construction surveyor, or cost planner. Use of Conquest software would be advantageous but not essential. Excel knowledge is desirable. Previous Roles: Trainee Estimator OR Assistant Estimator OR Pre-Construction Surveyor OR Intermediate Estimator OR Cost Planner. Qualifications & Skills: Degree or HND/HNC in a construction-related subject. Excel or Conquest software experience is preferable. One of my long standing shop-fit clients has recently secured a number of key accounts within the food retail sector covering projects across the UK . Due to the nature of these accounts, they have decided to take on an bright Assistant /Intermediate Contracts Manager ideally with some retail exposure; Assist to run a large retail food account by firstly meeting the client and understanding their needs. Assist in taking a project specification brief. Liaising with the estimator and design team back at their office. After securing the work, assist in project managing the fit out stage and new build works for each project. Coordinate for materials on site. Placing sub-contractors orders. Collating relevant Health and Safety files. Assist in costing minor projects to a clients specification. Working as a team in working within the budget given on each individual project. Help/Assist in project managing a number of projects running simultaneously in the food retail sector typically across the south of England. With an excellent reputation for stability, growth and staff retention, my client is looking for a key individual who wants to make a name within this fast-track arena.
