Principal Design Engineer – Rail/ Civil Engineering “An exciting opportunity for a rail, civils Principal Design Engineer to join an established and busy design team specialising in civil engineering projects in the rail sector” Having secured a number of long-term Frameworks with key clients, our client is further expanding their Civil & Structural Design team. We have a number of positions available at various levels for engineers who are committed to delivering the optimum design solution, building on their experience, and furthering their professional development. The design team consists of specialist designers at various levels of competency responsible for design engineering on a variety of civils, rail and engineering projects and frameworks including CP6, asset management contracts, infrastructure projects and tendered rail / civils schemes. Projects can typically include bridge re-construction/replacement, upgrades and refurbishments, station work (platforms etc.), access for all schemes, structures including bridges, tunnels and footbridges. The Role We are seeking a Principal Engineer for the Design Team to further support the business in undertaking both Permanent and Temporary Works Design across several long-term frameworks that we have secured with a number of major Clients. This is a lead role within the Design Team, responsible for the technical aspects of engineering projects in addition to programming, resource allocation, budgetary control, managing customer satisfaction, reviews, coaching and recruitment. As Principal Design Engineer, your day to day role will include: • Provide definitive technical guidance and leadership on engineering solutions • Lead the resolution of any compliances with CDM Regulations. • Define the brief, enabling the progression of innovative development of unambiguous engineering solutions from feasibility through to detailed design. • Lead the development of design philosophies of engineering solutions, ensuring appropriate documentation is in place. • Hold the CRE (Design) role on Network Rail schemes, over a varied range of projects including multi-disciplinary schemes. • Check and approve design deliverables, including Designer’s Risk Assessments and Decision Logs. • Be the lead representative at meetings with internal and/or external Clients and Stakeholders. • Ensure work is delivered within the team’s financial, quality and programme targets • Provide strong leadership and motivation of teams, carrying out scheduled performance and development reviews for direct reports • Mentor and coach team members, and input in to succession planning. • Keep Clients informed of costs or implications of change in a timely manner, and address any queries/disputes which may arise. • Assist the Head of Design in the management of the department • Promote a culture of excellence in the company Design & Engineering towards its customers Requirements To excel in this role, you will have previous experience as a Principal Design Engineer in a rail project environment. • Minimum BEng / BSc Degree level of education. • Chartered Member of a relevant Professional Body. (e.g. ICE / IStructE) • Sentinel Personal Track Safety (PTS) competence in both AC and DC. • Civil engineering project design experience – i.e. bridges, structures, stations, platforms etc. • Candidates from a rail / civil & structural engineering design background with experience in client, contractor or consultancy organisations will be considered. About The Opportunity This work involves specialist capabilities including the design & build of structural steelwork, cladding, piling and material handling equipment/ conveyors. The overall project value will be circa £165 million. As a Senior Planning Engineer, you will be working collaboratively with both the Internal and external Design and Procurement teams to implement robust pre-construction programmes. Company This principal contractor has a solid reputation in the industry for delivering large multi-million £ infrastructure projects from highways to large structural works. Role The successful applicant will be operating on site in the West Yorkshire area, duties include: Reviewing RAMS, guiding and overseeing engineers on site, carrying out audits and reviews, assisting management, managing sub-contractors and handling permits/tickets for site and staff. Experience / Qualifications Required Candidates must come from a Site Engineer background on related civil engineering projects (structures, highways, large civils etc.). Candidates must have experience of managing/overseeing staff on site. Main contractor experience desired. CSCS, SSSTS or SMSTS and full valid driver’s license. Remuneration Salary up to £42,000 (dependent upon experience) per annum plus company vehicle or car allowance and generous package. Bridge engineer needed for a contract position initially working from home My client is a design consultancy within the rail sector and are looking for civil/ structural engineer who has good experience with bridge design As the Bridge Engineer you would participate within a team of Rail Structures and Civil Engineers to undertake civil and structural task which would be principally focused around Rail bridges as well as platforms, culverts and lineside structures The candidate will need to have experience from consultancy background and is experienced in either Highways or Rail related bridge design projects, so therefore conversant in structural analysis, design and modelling software. This job will be working from home and laptop will be provided, the office is based in Sheffield and you will be expected to work from the office when it fully reopens however the company are not planning to do this until at least September Requirements - Experience of the Eurocodes - To have experience working on detailed design stages for either rail or highway bridge schemes - Experience working on Network Rail bridge design schemes as well as lineside civils and structures To be proficient in structural analysis and design software in relation to bridges such as Midas, Superstress or similar
