Senior Quantity Surveyor
Reports To
Commercial Manager / Commercial Director
Job Purpose
To manage the commercial and contractual aspects of construction projects, ensuring value for money, cost control, and effective risk management from pre-contract through to final account.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage project costs from tender stage through to final account
- Prepare and review cost plans, budgets, and forecasts
- Lead procurement of subcontractors and suppliers
- Administer contracts (e.g. JCT / NEC) including variations and change control
- Prepare, submit, and agree interim valuations and final accounts
- Assess and manage commercial risks and opportunities
- Manage and mentor junior QS staff where required
- Liaise with clients, consultants, and site teams to ensure commercial objectives are met
- Ensure compliance with company procedures and contractual obligations
- Support dispute resolution and commercial negotiations as needed
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor
- Strong knowledge of standard forms of contract (JCT, NEC, etc.)
- Excellent cost control, reporting, and forecasting skills
- Commercially aware with strong negotiation ability
- Experience managing subcontractor packages
- Confident communicator with the ability to lead meetings
- Good IT skills (Excel, commercial software, reporting tools)
Qualifications
- Degree in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management - Desirable
