Senior Quantity Surveyor

Reports To

Commercial Manager / Commercial Director

Job Purpose

To manage the commercial and contractual aspects of construction projects, ensuring value for money, cost control, and effective risk management from pre-contract through to final account.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage project costs from tender stage through to final account
  • Prepare and review cost plans, budgets, and forecasts
  • Lead procurement of subcontractors and suppliers
  • Administer contracts (e.g. JCT / NEC) including variations and change control
  • Prepare, submit, and agree interim valuations and final accounts
  • Assess and manage commercial risks and opportunities
  • Manage and mentor junior QS staff where required
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, and site teams to ensure commercial objectives are met
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures and contractual obligations
  • Support dispute resolution and commercial negotiations as needed

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor
  • Strong knowledge of standard forms of contract (JCT, NEC, etc.)
  • Excellent cost control, reporting, and forecasting skills
  • Commercially aware with strong negotiation ability
  • Experience managing subcontractor packages
  • Confident communicator with the ability to lead meetings
  • Good IT skills (Excel, commercial software, reporting tools)

Qualifications

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management - Desirable
