Our client is a leader in the construction sector, and our people are at the heart of our success. They are now looking for a seasoned Buyer to play a critical role in our continued growth.

The Role:

As a Buyer, you will be the vital link between our project teams, supply chain partners, and internal stakeholders. You will manage the end-to-end procurement of materials and plant, ensuring our strategies are not only cost-effective but also strategically aligned to support the flawless delivery of diverse construction projects.

This is a high-impact role where your commercial acumen and industry knowledge will be valued and directly contribute to our competitive advantage.

What We're Looking For (Experience & Skills):

Essential:

  • Over 7 years experience in a procurement function, with at least 3 years within the construction industry.
  • A proven track record of delivering measurable cost savings and value creation.
  • Strong technical knowledge of construction products, plant, and systems.
  • Excellent financial, commercial, and analytical skills.
  • Proven experience in mentoring or managing junior team members.
  • High proficiency in the COINS ERP system and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • A strategic mindset with outstanding negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  • A degree or equivalent in Procurement, Supply Chain, Quantity Surveying, or Construction Management.
  • CIPS qualification (or working towards it).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the full procurement lifecycle for materials and plant, from bid phase through to project completion.
  • Develop and implement project-specific procurement strategies in collaboration with work-winning and project teams.
  • Negotiate and agree on supplier rates and long-term agreements to secure best value.
  • Champion the use of preferred suppliers and procurement frameworks to maximise rebate generation and ensure compliance.
  • Identify and mitigate risks while capitalising on opportunities throughout the tender and construction phases.
  • Promote and implement best-value sourcing principles, looking beyond the initial price.
  • Manage, Mentor and guide junior members of the procurement team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Represent the company at industry events and maintain key supplier relationships through regular reviews.
  • Resolve supplier performance issues and mediate disputes effectively.
