Job Description

Our client is a well-established building and maintenance company based in Reading. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Multi-Trade Operative to join their team, working across social housing and domestic properties in the Reading area. This role is offered on a self-employed basis initially, with the potential to move to temporary-to-permanent or permanent employment after a qualifying period, up to 12 x weeks.

You will be working in the Social Housing sector / domestic properties within the Reading area, Must have extensive knowledge within all aspects of the trade, you will be working in voids, tenanted properties, A DBS checked will be carried out if successful, Must live within a 20-mile radius of Reading, must have a clean driving license as this is a good opportunity for a van being supplied if offered a temp / perm / permanent position.

This is a self-employed position, after a three-month period there may be PAYE options available, must provide 2 x sources of references, must live within a 20-mile radius of Reading.

Role Responsibilities

  • Reactive maintenance and planned works within social housing
  • Working independently and managing daily workloads
  • Liaising with supervisors and other trades as required
  • Void property works
  • Delivering high standards of workmanship and customer service

Required Skills & Experience

You must have strong experience across multiple trades, including:

  • 1st & 2nd Fix Carpentry
  • Kitchen & Bathroom Installations
  • 1st & 2nd Fix Plumbing (including soldering)
  • Minor leak repairs and sanitaryware replacement
  • Ceramic wall tiling
  • Vinyl flooring
  • Painting & Decorating
  • External works experience
  • Willingness to carry out non-licensed asbestos removal (full training provided)

Essential Requirements

  • Must live within a 20-mile radius of Reading
  • Own van and tools (company van may be provided if role becomes permanent)
  • Clean UK driving licence
  • Strong material knowledge
  • Ability to work alone and as part of a team
  • Excellent time management and communication skills
  • DBS check required (to be completed if successful)
  • Provide two work references
