Design Manager Location: Euston, London Salary: £80,000 £85,000 + Package Type: Permanent Full-Time We are currently supporting a leading UK civil engineering and infrastructure contractor in their search for a Design Manager to join their team working on major infrastructure schemes based in Euston. This role offers the opportunity to work within a Tier 1 delivery environment, supporting the development and delivery of technical solutions across complex civil engineering projects as part of a long-term programme of work. The successful candidate will play a key role in leading multidisciplinary design teams, managing consultants and ensuring the delivery of technically compliant, high-quality engineering solutions across the full project lifecycle. The Role As Design Manager, you will be responsible for delivering robust engineering solutions that support project delivery teams while ensuring design compliance, programme alignment and technical excellence. You will lead external consultants and internal engineering teams to develop design solutions across a range of infrastructure works including pipelines, pumping stations, networks and treatment systems. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage multidisciplinary design teams and external consultants Deliver technical solutions in line with programme, budget and client requirements Ensure designs comply with statutory standards, regulations and specifications Manage design consultant contracts and ensure obligations are fulfilled Oversee the production and coordination of concept, basic and detailed designs Support project delivery teams with engineering and technical solutions Manage engineering budgets and design schedules Implement and manage change control processes for design development Ensure all engineering outputs meet quality, safety and compliance standards Support supply chain engagement for specialist design inputs Liaise with project managers, engineering managers and consultants to resolve technical issues Coordinate with operational, maintenance and technical stakeholders Ensure all designs consider buildability, operability and maintainability About You To be successful in this role, you will have experience working within a main contractor or self-delivery contractor environment delivering infrastructure or civil engineering projects. Essential Experience Proven experience in Design Management within civil engineering or infrastructure projects Experience working on Design & Build contracts Experience administering NEC3 or NEC4 PSC contracts Strong understanding of programme management, change control and design impact assessments Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams and design consultants Knowledge of foul water drainage systems and potable water mains Experience using Building Information Modelling (BIM) and common data environments Degree or HNC in Civil Engineering or related discipline Member of a recognised engineering institution, or working towards professional accreditation Desirable Previous experience working on major rail or infrastructure schemes Experience supporting large infrastructure programmes such as HS2 Please note that candidates who have spent the majority of their career working client-side (for example Network Rail, HS2 Ltd or London Underground) will not be suitable for this role. Our client is a leading Tier 1 Build Contractor, due to continued growth in their Midlands region they are seeking an experienced Design Manager to join their team delivering major construction across the West Midlands with a focus on high-rise projects. The Role The Design Manager will be responsible for delivering high-rise residential and mixed-use developments in Birmingham. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and coordinating the design process from tender through to project completion, ensuring designs are compliant, buildable, and delivered in line with programme, cost, and quality objectives. This role requires strong experience in high-rise schemes, working closely with consultants, subcontractors, and project teams to ensure efficient design delivery on complex projects. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage the design process throughout pre-construction and construction stages.
