The Role
* To efficiently manage all commercial aspects of the project / business unit and maintain regular liaison and communication with the Business Unit Director, Senior Commercial Manager and Group Commercial Director.

The Company
My client is successful, dynamic and growing contracting business who work within Civil Engineering and Construction. They are currently growing year on year in the UK and have a healthy turnover. As a result of increased workload, they are looking to hire Senior QS or Commercial Manager to take responsibility for commercial aspects of projects in the Southern Region. This role may suit a Senior Quantity Surveyor looking to take the next step into Commercial Management.
The Role
* To efficiently manage all commercial aspects of the project / business unit and maintain regular liaison and communication with the Business Unit Director, Senior Commercial Manager and Group Commercial Director.
* To manage the development of personal plans and establishment of objectives/targets for all commercial team within their team and monitor on an ongoing basis.
* To give assistance, support and guidance on all commercial issues within the project / business unit and ensure that commercial team are utilised to their maximum potential.
* To own the CVR’s and workload forecasts monthly to satisfy the requirements of the business unit Director, Senior Commercial Manager and Group Commercial Director and any other reports which may be required.
* To ensure Valuations/Applications/Final Accounts etc. are submitted to the Client on the/all project(s) in a timely and professional manner and in accordance with the relevant contract.
* To ensure that all subcontractor/supplier accounts are managed rigorously in accordance with good industry practice and the group procedures from requisition stage through to the signature for payment authorisation and final account.
* To assist with the development and training of commercial team within the business unit including counselling role for staff undertaking their APC, or similar.
* To assist commercial team in identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities on all projects within the business unit.
* To encourage and develop a culture of contractual & commercial awareness and ensure that the full contractual entitlement is achieved by the commercial team by rigidly managing records, contractual notifications, change control, etc. on all projects within the business unit.
* To be responsible in conjunction with the Business Unit Director and estimating team to ensure that a review of all of the contractual obligations and commercial risks is carried out prior to the submission of all tenders within the business unit and attend tender settlement meetings as required.
* To ensure effective negotiations with prospective clients are carried out prior to signing contracts to minimise the business’s exposure to risk.
* To share all appropriate information with the Group Commercial Director where different business units are carrying out projects for the same Client to enable a “Group” approach/relationship with regular Clients.
* To monitor and improve cash management within the business unit with specific reference to CVR internal values v certificates, debtor days etc.
* Ensure all tenders are adjudicated, terms reviewed and a commercial plan is formed at tender and executed. To ensure that best commercial practices are identified, shared and implemented across the business unit as appropriate.
* To ensure that all group procedures are strictly followed by all commercial team in your control.
* To ensure that the outturn costs on all projects within the business unit monitored on a monthly basis through a detailed bottom up resourced and costed forecast.
