A local Authority in Somerset are now looking for a Clerk of Works / Quality Inspector to supervise the construction of small highway improvement schemes pursuant to the provisions of the County Council Term Maintenance Contract. The role will include quality control, valuations and contract compliance. As the successful Clerk of Works you must have previous experience a similar role or in line with a Quality Inspector on the Highways schemes. Please note, this position is inside of IR35, will require lone working and use of your own vehicle is expected. You will carry out site checks, quality and safety inspections on the project, relaying instructors to sub-contractors and other external stakeholders. You will liaise daily with the Project Manager/Supervisors where appropriate to update them of work progress and any problems arising. You will assess any defects on the work from a H&S point of view and alert these to the business to ensure any remedial works are carried out. A CSCS Card and SSSTS are both required for the position, alongside a sound knowledge of statutory regulations (chapter 8 TSM, NRSWA, Health and safety regulations)

Vertical Recruitment is working closely with an extremely busy Local Authority in the Manchester area. The Authority have a number of highway and infrastructure schemes due to start in the coming months and now look to appoint an NEC Highways Supervisor. The successful applicant will be engaged on a long term contract, working inside IR35. Applicants will ideally have 5 years' experience working in a Supervisor role, administering NEC ECC forms of contract (including Options A and B payment mechanisms), supervision of contractors on site and verification of valuations for completed works. Experience of working on highways and transportation infrastructure projects, including public realm works, in a town centre environment is essential. Experience of working across multiple projects (up to five at any one time) simultaneously with construction values ranging from 2k to 1m is desired. AutoCAD skills would be beneficial. Full list of duties include; o To act as stated in the NEC contract and in a spirit of mutual trust and co-operation o Communicate in a form which can be read, copied and recorded o Reply to communication in a timely manner within the period for reply in the contract data o Issue certificates to the project manager and contractor o To notify the contractor of tests and inspections o Test and inspect without causing unnecessary delays o Notify the contractor of defects found o Issue defects certificates o Mark equipment, plant and materials outside of the working areas for payment purposes o Raising works orders for contractors o Daily supervision ensuring construction compliance with the drawings and specification, programme monitoring, photographs and diaries o Setting up, chairing and attending meetings, progress, pre start, accounts, traffic management, employer o Drafting early warnings, compensation events for review by the PM o Using CAD to produce site sketches, design amendments and instructions (desirable) o Evaluation of monthly application and assist commercial team with compensation events and records of work completed o Assist communications team in liaising with stakeholders regarding TM, road closures and programmes weekly construction updates on each project
