Job Title: Accounts Assistant

Location: Hadlow
Reports to: Accounts Manager / Finance Director
Job Type: Temporary Cover (2-3 Months)

Job Overview

Our client are a growing groundworks and civil engineering company seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Accounts Assistant to support their finance function. The role will involve day-to-day accounting tasks, with a strong focus on purchase ledger and supporting monthly accounts. Experience within construction or groundworks is advantageous but not essential.

Key Responsibilities

Purchase Ledger

  • Processing supplier invoices accurately and in a timely manner
  • Matching invoices to purchase orders and delivery notes
  • Dealing with supplier queries and statement reconciliations
  • Preparing supplier payment runs

General Accounts Duties

  • Assisting with bank reconciliations
  • Posting journals and maintaining accurate ledgers
  • Supporting monthly management accounts
  • Assisting with CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) returns
  • Maintaining organised financial records and filing systems

Administrative & Support Tasks

  • Liaising with site managers and subcontractors regarding invoices
  • Assisting with payroll data preparation (hours, timesheets, etc.)
  • Providing general support to the accounts team as required

Skills & Experience Required

  • Previous experience in an accounts assistant or similar finance role
  • Strong attention to detail and good numerical skills
  • Knowledge of accounting software (e.g. Sage, Xero, QuickBooks or similar)
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines
  • Strong communication skills

Desirable (but not essential)

  • Experience within construction or groundworks
  • Knowledge of CIS and subcontractor payments
