Job Description

We are acting on behalf of one of our clients to recruit an Operational Health & Safety Manager to deliver hands-on Health & Safety leadership across live operational environments. This role is a 12 month Fixed Term Contract.

This is a part-time appointment (3 days per week) suited to someone wanting a site-facing, practical role, responsible for ensuring safe systems of work are implemented, risks are effectively controlled, and Health & Safety standards are consistently applied across operational activities.

The Role

Reporting to the Strategic Health & Safety Manager, the Operational Health & Safety Manager will be the primary on-the-ground H&S point of contact, supporting managers, supervisors and contractors across multiple sites.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering H&S policies, procedures and standards across operational sites

  • Acting as the primary site-based H&S contact for managers and contractors

  • Conducting site inspections, audits and compliance checks

  • Leading incident and near-miss investigations, including root cause analysis

  • Writing, reviewing, approving and managing RAMS for operational activities

  • Providing practical H&S advice to operational and engineering teams

  • Delivering toolbox talks, briefings and operational H&S training

  • Managing contractor H&S compliance

  • Tracking corrective and preventative actions to completion

  • Escalating significant risks, non-compliance and trends to the Strategic H&S Manager

  • Supporting and promoting a proactive, positive safety culture

About You

This role will suit a hands-on, operational H&S professional with strong experience working in high-risk environments, particularly within energy, utilities, infrastructure or electrical settings.

Essential requirements:

  • NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent)

  • Strong operational Health & Safety experience within high-risk environments

  • Proven experience working on live operational sites

  • Experience conducting inspections, audits and investigations

  • Proven experience producing and managing RAMS and permits to work

  • Experience managing contractor Health & Safety compliance

  • Experience working in HV electrical environments

  • Practical understanding of HV safety rules, access control and permit-to-work systems

  • Strong communication skills and confidence challenging unsafe practices
