Description Careys are looking for a Crane Supervisor to support lifting operations across the site by ensuring all lifting activities are carried out safely, efficiently and in full accordance with the lifting plan. Working closely with the Appointed Person, Slinger/Signallers, Crane Operators and site management, the Crane Supervisor will oversee day-to-day lifting tasks, maintain compliance with legislation, and uphold Careys high standards of safety and operational excellence. This role is critical in coordinating safe lifting operations, enforcing correct procedures, and ensuring all personnel and equipment involved are working to approved methods. Key Responsibilities Supervise lifting operations in line with the appointed lifting plan and method statements. Ensure all lifts are conducted safely, correctly and with full adherence to LOLER regulations. Coordinate with the Appointed Person regarding planned lifts, unforeseen changes, or additional requirements. Brief lifting teams (operators, slingers, signallers) on the lift plan, hazards and control measures. Ensure exclusion zones, barriers and signage are set up correctly before any lifting begins. Monitor site conditions and stop operations if any unsafe acts, adverse weather or changes occur. Verify that all lifting equipment is certified, inspected and fit for purpose. Maintain accurate records for lifts, inspections and issue of lifting accessories. Liaise with subcontractors, site teams and logistics personnel to ensure smooth workflow. Promote safe behaviours, challenge unsafe practices and enforce Careys safety standards. Skills, Knowledge and Expertise Strong situational awareness and safety-led decision making. Excellent communication with teams, crane operators and management. Ability to lead, coordinate and manage multiple lifting tasks. Problem-solving mindset, especially when conditions or priorities change. Confident in controlling exclusion zones, people flow and equipment. Knowledge Thorough understanding of lifting operations, crane types and accessories. In-depth knowledge of LOLER, PUWER and relevant construction safety regulations. Familiarity with construction sequencing and material movement requirements. Understanding of environmental and site-specific constraints affecting lifting. Expertise & Qualifications CPCS Crane Supervisor (A62) essential. CSCS card essential. Previous experience as a Crane Supervisor on major construction or civils projects. Experience working alongside Appointed Persons and crane teams. Slinger/Signaller CPCS (desirable) . Experience on complex or high-risk sites (desirable, especially in West Cumbria environments).
