Senior Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to join a major SCL tunnelling scheme in Kent. This is a long-term freelance opportunity on a technically demanding project, offered on an Outside IR35 basis for an 18-month duration.

Key Responsibilities

• Setting out and engineering control for SCL tunnelling works

• Managing and supporting site engineers and junior staff

• Producing and reviewing RAMS, ITPs, and method statements

• Raising and managing RFIs, technical queries, and design clarifications

• Ensuring works are carried out in accordance with design, specifications, and programme

• Liaising with the Site Agent, Project Manager, client, and design team

• Coordinating with subcontractors and monitoring quality of works

• Maintaining accurate site records, as-built information, and daily diaries

• Supporting progress reporting and short-term planning

• Ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Senior Engineer on tunnelling or major civil engineering projects

• Strong understanding of SCL tunnelling methodologies and or trenchless work.

• Competent with surveying equipment and engineering software

• Ability to lead engineers and manage technical aspects of the works

• Strong communication and problem-solving skills

• CSCS (Gold or Black), SMSTS or SSSTS preferred

• Temporary Works Coordinator or Supervisor experience desirable
