Contract Construction Plumber Architect and Design Skilled Trades & Labour

Job Description

Experienced plumbers are required for a new build care home project to carry out high-quality first fix, second fix, and plant room installation and commissioning. The successful candidates will work from drawings, specifications, and health & safety requirements to deliver compliant, defect-free plumbing installations.

1st Fix Plumbing

  • Interpret design drawings and plans for pipework routing and installation.

  • Install hot and cold water distribution systems.

  • Set out and install soil, waste and vent (SWV) systems in accordance with specifications.

  • Install pipework in walls, floors, and service voids ready for later fixtures.

  • Install plant room distribution mains and isolation valves for later connection.

  • Set out support brackets, clips, hangers, and fixings as required.

  • Prepare for mechanical services integration where applicable.

  • Ensure all connections are correctly positioned for ease of second fix.

2nd Fix Plumbing

  • Install sanitary ware including toilets, basins, bidets, showers, tubs and associated chrome fittings.

  • Connect and test faucets, mixer taps, flushing systems, and valves.

  • Install water heaters, showers, drains, traps, wastes, and trims.

  • Accurately fit and commission service fittings to manufacturer standards.

  • Seal and finish exposed pipework as required for client inspection.

  • Coordinate with tilers, decorators and other trades to avoid damage and delays.

Plant Room Installation

  • Install, test and commission the plant room systems, including:

    • Hot water generation (boilers/heat interface units)

    • Cold water storage & pumps

    • Circulation pumps and controls

    • Expansion vessels and safety valves

    • Water softeners and filtration systems

    • Pressure reducing & boosting sets

  • Assemble, align, and support heavy mechanical components.

  • Apply insulation to pipework and tanks in accordance with thermal standards.

  • Ensure compliance with boilers and pressurised systems regulations.

Skills & Experience

  • City & Guilds NVQ Level 2/3 in Plumbing or equivalent.

  • Proven experience with new build residential / healthcare facilities.

  • Competent with pipework (copper, plastic, stainless), pressfit systems, and plant commissioning.

  • Use of calibration, pressure test and leak detection tools.

  • Knowledge of building services coordination and site sequencing.
